Fight to resume executions in California clears 1 hurdle

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A judge on Tuesday lifted his own court's previous order blocking California from carrying out death sentences by lethal injection, but the decision is far from the final word on the contentious issue because of several ongoing lawsuits.

Marin County Superior Court Judge Roy Chernus said in a tentative order that a 2016 ballot measure approved by voters to resume executions invalidated his prior injunction blocking the death penalty. Chernus ruled in 2012 that the state failed to follow proper procedures when it set standards for conducting executions using three drugs.

Voters approved Proposition 66, however, which did away with the requirement that the state follow those procedures. Chernus said that left him with "no alternative but to dissolve the permanent injunction."

A tentative ruling gives the parties a chance to change the judge's mind before a final decision.

Much paraphrasing ----

So the way to balance the state budgets is to get all these states where sick fucks think executions are a great idea... and ya sit the convict in a chair and charge these assholes, maybe $150 each, to see ya put a couple of battery cables on his nuts and turn on the switch...

The budget will be balanced for several years to come.

One, studies show they’re more expensive than incarceration.

Two, they’re irreversible so if a mistake is made, it can’t be corrected.
