Kentucky House passes measure to restrict abortions after 11 weeks

Source: The HILL

.
The Kentucky House of Representatives passed a bill Tuesday banning a common kind of abortion after 11 weeks of pregnancy.

Reuters reported that the Republican-controlled House passed the bill for a second time, approving changes made to the bill by the GOP-controlled state Senate.

The legislation would block doctors from performing an abortion procedure known as dilation and evacuation, except during medical emergencies.

About 16 percent of all abortions in Kentucky are performed using the procedure, which is generally used for pregnancies during the second trimester, according to Reuters.

They want the risk of death to be a behavior modification tool for women.

It'll likely be struck down by a court, and so the wingnuts will go ape about "activist judges," motivating them to the polls.

Watch for more junk like this before November.

Distract 'em with religious crackpottery to keep them from noticing that Kynect has been wrecked.

Too bad that the only kentuckians who suffer losing their healthcare can't be the ones who voted en masse for the orange turd and a puke governor.

What they really hate is that a woman can choose to have an abortion even if the father of the baby wants her to carry the pregnancy to term. Heaven forbid a woman's wishes about what to do with HER OWN BODY should supersecede a man's.

...............................

Since last year, when Republicans took control of the Kentucky House for the first time since 1921, the state’s legislature has passed several measures to restrict access to abortion, including banning all abortions after the 20th week of pregnancy.

Critics have said the latest bill will almost certainly face a legal challenge. Last year, a similar measure passed by Texas lawmakers was struck down by a federal judge.

Similar bans in other states including Alabama, Arkansas, Kansas and Oklahoma have also been struck down by courts.

While dilation and evacuation is used in most second-trimester abortions, nearly 90 percent of all abortions are performed in the first trimester, according to the Guttmacher Institute, a research group that supports abortion rights.
