Florida school massacre survivor David Hogg seeks boycott of sponsors of Fox's Laura Ingraham
Source: CNBC
Florida school massacre survivor David Hogg, who has turned into fierce gun control advocate, is asking his 599,000 Twitter followers to boycott advertisers of Fox News host Laura Ingraham.
The conservative commentator mocked Hogg on Twitter on Wednesday after the 17-year-old revealed in an interview on TMZ that his applications were recently rejected by four University of California campuses. Ingraham tweeted: "David Hogg Rejected By Four Colleges To Which He Applied and whines about it. (Dinged by UCLA with a 4.1 GPA...totally predictable given acceptance rates.)"
Hogg fired back with his own tweet calling on his followers to boycott Ingraham's advertisers. "Pick a number 1-12 contact the company next to that #," he tweeted.
TMZ producer Harvey Levin, who interviewed Hogg, was among many who responded to Ingraham's remarks. He tweeted: "@IngrahamAngle David was not whining. I called him about the story. He was not feeling sorry for himself in the slightest. It was my idea that colleges should consider applicants who are so committed. Did you watch the video???"

(10,009 posts)Let someone else handle the idiots that attack them on social media.
I think that Ingraham and others are trying desperately to get "the kids" off message. If they keep up with saying it is not about us, or our heritage, or our sexual preference, or our individual politics but about common sense gun legislation backed by an overwhelming majority of U.S. citizens, the kids could and should win this.

Rhetoric >> logic.
Ever see a conservative smeared? Of course not. Anything we say about those subhumans has to be merited. Because this kind of thinking is purely rhetional. Oops. Rational.

(22,791 posts)And they smear each other all the time during primaries. But conservatives have become so bat shit crazy that it is impossible to smear them. Accuse them of any wildly imaginative crime and it will turn out to be true.

(10,009 posts)If they can do both, more power to them. I just have seen times when extremely capable individuals spend so much time defending themselves from false accusations and demonization attempts that their message gets lost.....
If others take up the defense and let the individual stay on message, the results might be better

(4,940 posts)I've found that letters/email/tweets get more attention from companies if you also add:
a) praise for product/service but only if sincere;
b) an upbeat attitude when suggesting a remedy or remedies to the reason for the complaint.
I've gotten a LOT of great responses that way, from government agencies to restaurants and beer distilleries.
Some of the advertisers above don't exist here, but the ones who do will be tweeted and followed up by e-mail if available.
Republicans and their supporters have a lot in common with sewers and sceptic tanks.

(128,845 posts)and forced to go internet, afterwhich he had to retool to get back on the radio again. Plus boycotts pretty much added to the bankrupting of Clear Channel (renamed IHeartRadio after being vulture capitalized and milked before it bit the dust a couple weeks ago), where they were trying hard to hang on after significantly cutting Limpball's income when his contract was renewed. And with that contract being based on "revenue sharing" and IHeart going bankrupt, the handwriting is on the wall.

(6,931 posts)Who are both still on the air. In fact our local hate radio went back with Beck a couple of years ago. Let's keep tab and see how many of those 12 Companies refuse to advertise on Ingrams show or FOX for that matter.
On the flip side let's see if crazed Trumpanzies cause a big revenue drop at Amazon seeing how their always the party of boycotting.

(128,845 posts)There will probably be a (mini) exodus. Ingraham is part of the 2nd tier crowd - including Mark Levin, Savage Wiener, Hugh Hewett, Mike Gallagher, Ann Coulter, etc.
The difference between them and us is that THEY will continue airing and otherwise spewing their bullshit at a loss because they consider that a "donation" to their cause. See the Moonies and the Washington Times that operated for 33 years, with $1 billion in losses before finally turning a profit 3 years ago - all to spew RW bullshit.
Same with Cumulus (and their RW stations), that is going through bankruptcy too. They don't care.
But I say make them operate at a loss. Eventually they will cut them loose and move on.

(9,090 posts)record the closest radio station shes on using a free trial from apowersoft mac audio recorder for instance, or using any of the many recording programs
then drag the mp3 or other sound file to the 'box' sonix.ai to get it transcribed for $5/hr (plus monthly fee $15 - 1st 1/2 free). it doesnt take long and they send you an email when it's done. they use AI and it's much faster, accurate and cheaper than anything else available 1 year ago.
then youll have a list of LOCAL advertisers with their contact info and youll be able to associate what she says with what the advertisers are sponsoring, in print, and send it to them in an email that prob has a good chance to reach the owner/boss.
similar can be done for ALL the RW hosts - local and national - all are attacking the kids when not excusing trump. and if you search the transcript for hogg, which is a very common name all over the country on rw radio, or "guns" NRA, AR-15, "second amendment" "parkland", etc there will be a lot of ammo....
and theres about a 1/5 chance or better that that station also depends on a local/state university to keep broadcasting sports on it to help attract the advertisers, most who wont know shit about ingrahams show until someone puts in in print in an email along with the ads
other benefits here:
Artificial intelligence can amp up the boycotts, democratize talk radio, doom the GOP.

now i just recorded an ad a touting the university of new mexico's diversity!!!! during the limbaugh show - i've recorded about 3 of those in the last few days
getting one of these 88 unis to drop limbaugh stations could start a landslide of unis and advertisers
i'll add more to this last diary in the near future

We were discussing the incident for a few minutes and I made a comment about how the kids had handled the situation and she tossed off a comment while looking down at her cellphone about something else, and said, "Yeah, we'll get you."

(11,885 posts)Hit them where it hurts, money . Ever thought about running for office David? You should, we need good young people in our government , and you have shown you DO have the abilities to do well in that position. We also need others from your group to also think about running for office after seeing , and hearing your voices for this country's gun problems, especially some of the girls. Emma and Ms Tar were very , very good as were some others, but more women need to be in our government asap. Keep it up David, they are feeling the effects .
