Hillary Clinton speaks at Rutgers talks women in politics, bipartisanship and the future of Americ

.......................

After the 2016 election, she said she felt pressure to remove herself from the public sphere and conversations about social issues. When asked how people could support efforts to sustain female political involvement and the support of institutions that support women regardless of their standing, she said there are three interrelated challenges. The first challenge is to convince women to get involved.

“The numbers of women who are running in these midterm elections and in the special elections we’ve seen over the past year and three or four months is very encouraging to me. So, we’ve got to keep those numbers, we have to keep the pipeline full. It’s not one and out, it’s one after another,” she said.
............................

“(Opposing groups) are as determined if not more so than you are, because they have other interests, they see the world differently, they make money from it, they have ideological reasons for it. The biggest challenges we face is keeping our momentum, of sustaining the energy that I have now seen, (sic)” she said.

When asked about how she sees the predominantly white political landscape and ways to even the playing field, Clinton said she is funding approximately a dozen groups of young people who are recruiting candidates of color, training them and granting them access to resources that prepare them for a spot in government. .............................................

the continual tours of political gadflies looking for publicity, photo ops, and soundbites.

(I'm on Kasich's email list which I monitor to keep an eye on 2020 Democratic Party opposition, and the man is shameless.)

By donating speech $$$, it would show us loud & clear who's in it for the well being of our country & who is in it to serve themselves.

That info should be made public with every speech announcement.

Kudos to the selfless generosity of Sec Clinton.

Love her to pieces & proud to stand by her forever

as well as those who pad their own PACS & wallets.

It is these generous public servants who should be leading this country out of the self serving hell hole, & back to a functioning society.

They should ALL be named.

Got annoyed when I saw "bipartisanship" in the headline but luckily that doesn't seem to be the crux of what was discussed, at least not in the traditional way that the media salivates over.

I don't want to see that fucking word any more. There is no "bipartisanship" with the modern Republican party and there never has been. And no, I don't consider "bipartisan" to mean peeling off Susan Collin's vote on one specific bill every couple of years.

We stand for what is right, what is moral, and what is in the best interest of a majority of Americans. When Democrats govern, everyone prospers. There is no "other side" to that. At this point the facts and the data and history have proven their positions wrong and untenable. Period. We should no longer be looking at "their side", we should instead be presenting facts and data (of which there is plenty) showing that "their side" has been tried and it has failed miserably at every turn.

Great Crowd & pics.
Unfortunately the Speech was live stream so perhaps someone can locate a clip elsewhere.

...Ruth Mandel director of Rutgers Eagleton Institute of Politics, put it to Clinton Thursday at Rutgers in Piscataway, why still talk when “People say get off the stage and shut up”?

The former secretary of state’s response was direct:

They never said that to any man who was not elected.”
...much less to anyone who won the popular vote.

From the Link:

More than 5,000 people packed the floor and stands of Rutgers Athletic Center for Clinton's hour-long question-and-answer with Mandel. The talk focused on politics and women in politics.

But then she got serious and described the double standard against her.

"I was really struck how people said that to me," Clinton said.

And then she assured the adoring crowd she will remain in the public realm.

"I am really committed to speaking out and doing what I can to have a voice in the debate," Clinton said.

She added: "You won't be surprised to hear me say that I have some concerns.
"

Rutgers Eagleton Institute of Politics hosted the sold-out event.

Rutgers will pay Clinton $25,000 from an endowment but use no money from tuition or state aid, according to the university.

A Clinton spokesperson told NBC the former secretary of state plans to donate the honorarium for the speech to charity.

This is what she does for all of these appearances. When this appearance was first announced I saw some around here complaining about her $25,000 "speaking fee".

New rules for them to consider in light of the generous leaders like Clinton & Warren, Every Politician, as a public servant should openly list where their Speaker fees go..
