Feinstein drops opposition to legal pot, giving legal marijuana a new ally
Source: McClatchy
Sen. Dianne Feinstein, a longtime opponent of legalizing recreational marijuana, now says the federal government should not interfere in California's legal marijuana market.
In comments to McClatchy Tuesday in the middle of a 2018 campaign for her seat in a state that has settled into the legal pot market the California Democrat said she was open to considering federal protection for state-legalized marijuana.
Feinstein's office said her views changed after meetings with constituents, particularly those with young children who have benefited from medical marijuana use.
"Federal law enforcement agents should not arrest Californians who are adhering to California law," said Feinstein, who faces a challenge from Kevin de Leon, who's attracting many liberals who see Feinstein as too moderate.

(92,126 posts)that she is a liberal, and has been so all her public life when she was in the board of supervisors in San Francisco, and ran against Joe Alioto for Mayor.
They are either taking one or two issues they disagree with her, and ignoring the rest, or worse yet, they are drinking the Kool Aid that somebody is feeding them without knowing the facts

(20,868 posts)Remember this man. Mayor George Moscone ran against Dear Dianne and won!
He along with Supervisor Harvey Milk were assassinated by Dan White and THEN she became the mayor of San Francisco by default as she was the Chairwoman of the Board of Supervisors. Joseph L. Alioto was inaugurated on January 8, 1968, served a term, and was handily re-elected in 1971. Alioto was history at this time!

From the article:
Feinstein has said that when she was a parole officer she saw too many criminals who "began with marijuana and went on to hard drugs."

Glad to hear she's coming around, but I would have been far more impressed if this were January 2017 (or January 2019) and she'd said the same thing.
