Judge rules New York condo board may remove 'Trump' name

Source: The Washington Post

By David A. Fahrenthold May 3 at 12:07 PM

NEW YORK — A New York state judge ruled Thursday that a high-rise condo building called “Trump Place” may remove that name from its facade, rejecting an argument from President Trump’s company that the building was permanently obligated to keep it.

Judge Eileen Bransten rejected the main argument of the Trump Organization: That the license agreement that allowed the building at 200 Riverside Boulevard to call itself “Trump Place” also barred the building from ever taking the name down.

“That simply is not what the document says,” Bransten said, reading her ruling aloud from the bench in a lower Manhattan state court house.

Instead, Bransten said, the condo association may vote to rename the building, even if the Trump Organization objects. She granted a “summary judgment” motion, ruling for the condo board at an early stage of the case.

A former business partner proving that his brand is souring, and getting away with it, publicly.

No other reason for him to try to claim the existence of a clause barring them.

Although it wouldn't work in Canada. Here in Vancouver we have those giant ugly gold letters hanging over one of our major downtown streets. But we've been told when someone tried to legally remove his name from a Toronto apartment, that Trump has some kind of iron clad garantee that even any future owner must keep his rancid name on their building. Sweet deal for Trump. He doesn't even build buildings anymore, he just leases out his "good" name for marketing purposes to slap onto highrises. Personally I don't know how anyone could even live in one of his branded buildings. Walking under those letters every day.

a listing in a Trump building by a realtor, the name synonymous to me with vulgarity and bizarre evidences of bad character, and just plain bad taste. I didn't know about all the organized crime owners of many units, but NYers would have.

THESE people who now want the Trump name off didn't have a problem with it, perhaps were even attracted by it, when they purchased.

Just an observation. Seems that these NYC conservatives and/or indifferents no longer see the Trump name as respectable. Actual removal will require a 2/3 vote from residents.
