* Lawyer asks judge seal Michael Cohen records to protect women
* New York Post journalist said to take allegations to Trump
Donald Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, was informed about allegations of sexual misconduct by then-New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman around 2013, according to a letter filed in Manhattan federal court on Friday.
An attorney, Peter Gleason, submitted a letter to the court Friday explaining that two women had come to him a half-decade or more ago with complaints that they were "sexually victimized" by Schneiderman.
Counseling against reporting the allegations to Manhattan's district attorney based on his past experiences with political corruption cases, Gleason says, he discussed the women's allegations with a retired New York Post journalist, Stephen Dunleavy.
Dunleavy who offered to discuss the matter with Trump. "Mr. Dunleavy did indeed discuss this very matter with Mr. Trump as evidenced by a phone call I received from attorney Michael Cohen," Gleason, a lawyer in Mahopac, New York, wrote to the judge. "During my communications with Mr. Cohen I shared with him certain details of Schneiderman's vile attacks on these two women." ... Schneiderman's lawyer, Isabelle Kirshner, declined to comment.

This is all coming out now because the lawyer (Peter Gleason) is asking the judge in the Michael Cohen case to issue an order protecting any records mentioning Gleason or the women that may have been seized from Cohen by the FBI. The motion, filed this am:

Wow: A lawyer is claiming that 2 of Eric Schneiderman's alleged victims contacted him in 2013. He says he advised them not to call prosecutors. Instead he says he went to a journalist who then talked to... Donald Trump. And then, the lawyer says, Michael Cohen called him about it

As @ShaneGoldmacher just noted, this adds new context to the old anti-Schneiderman tweets by Trump that went around earlier this week -- including this one, from 2013, right about the time that Gleason says Trump found out:

Hold up. trump knew that Schneiderman was assaulting women but, instead of saying/doing anything to prevent future assaults, held the info until he could use it to benefit himself. There are always new layers of dirtier garbage.

If I were writing this letter, I would make it FAR FAR FAR clearer whether I disclosed the women's confidences to journalists and Team Trump WITH THEIR INFORMED CONSENT OR NOT. The ambiguity on that point is concerning.

(174 posts)Grassley says he believes Trump will be cleared, the only way this is possible is if Trump has dirt on the entire GOP in a way that would take down the party if it came out, and so he expects them to come to his defense. Those that don't play ball will end up like Schneiderman. This might be a warning shot to Paul Ryan to stay in line, so far Ryan has done so with Nunes.

(21,846 posts)Two women just happen to go to the same attorney, Peter Gleason, who has no expertise in sexual harassment, etc.
Gleason just violates attorney-client privilege by going to a NY Post "journalist" and telling him about it, who in turn goes to Trump.
Well, isn't that convenient?
Smells like ratfucking to me.

(43,128 posts)Thank you for mentioning it. While names were probably not discussed, still ... why would an attorney go to a journalist? Why would a journalist go to Trump? This is a food chain of information stored away for future power. This is the TIP of the iceberg. There is no telling how much information is locked away for advantage over someone, somewhere.

(5,995 posts)Sounds like the NY Post reporter knew who to contact to pay off the women and hooked their lawyer up with the guy in NYC with the best fixer for such problems.
Maybe the NY Post cut a "catch & kill" deal for their "exclusive" story that was facilitated by Mr. Cohen.
eta: In 2013, Trump was still playing both sides and this worked for him either way.

(43,128 posts)Gleason to Trump. Trump to Cohen. Then Cohen calls Gleason. Cohen has files on this activity. Wonder what else is in Cohen's files?
A lot of information on a lot of people? Who else is funneling information to Trump over the years? This area of inquiry may have legs to it.

Would also explain his resignation within hours of the accusation if there was contemporaneous documentation in the hands of the FBI.

(57,393 posts)Somehow Michael Cohen And Donald Trump Are Now Involved In The Eric Schneiderman Case
Every cesspool of a New York law story comes together in this one.
By JOE PATRICE
at 12:27 PM
A couple days ago, attorney Peter Gleason came forward explaining that two unrelated and unidentified women had approached his law office regarding alleged sexual misconduct from noted role-play enthusiast former New York AG Eric Schneiderman. Ultimately neither case went forward something all too common in the pre-#MeToo era but Gleason did take some preliminary steps on their behalf.
Apparently, those preliminary steps involved bringing Michael Cohen and Donald Trump into the matter for some unknown f**king reason. ... Earlier this morning, Gleason wrote Judge Kimba Wood seeking a protective order in the latest bonkers turn in this ridiculous case:
I discussed the matter with a retired journalist by the name of Stephen Dunleavy who suggested and offered to discuss the matter with Donald Trump. Mr. Dunleavy did indeed discuss this very matter with Mr. Trump as evidenced by a phone call I received from Attorney Michael Cohen.
During my communications with Mr. Cohen I shared with him certain details of Mr. Schneidermans vile attacks on these two women.
So why? What exactly was the point of bringing Trump into this? Cohen I understand he smelled a high-priced NDA the way a shark smells a drop of blood from 10 miles away but what the hell was Trump supposed to do? And, if we take this story at face value, Trump was aware of allegations against Schneiderman and he never brought them up during the Trump University suit? Trump makes up scurrilous attacks out of whole cloth in other cases, but he never tossed around claims about Schneiderman?
Or did he? Check out this gem from 2013:

(62,444 posts)Simple.
Look at what Gleason was doing at the time:

Okay, so Gleason is a defense attorney for a prostitution operation.
Two women assaulted by Schneiderman get referred to him. I think we can guess why.
Trump meanwhile is running a modeling agency that brings in talented women from Eastern Europe.
Connect the dots.

(282 posts)is because Gleason had the goods on Trump having been a client of Anna Gristinas and the documentation to prove it?
Trump is a vindictive low-life and and for him not to have had the info leaked during all the years Schniederman was suing him can only mean one thing.

(13,776 posts)It would be useful ammunition in case Schneiderman ever went after him for his real estate stuff. So Trump's interest makes perfect sense.
What doesn't make sense is why this lawyer would think that "I heard about Schneiderman's attacks on women, so instead of going to law enforcement I told a journalist who said he would tell Trump. Justice prevailed!" would fly as an excuse.
jberryhill
(62,444 posts)Trump, as you will recall, ran a "modeling agency".

(5,586 posts)If Trump could prove the assaults took place, don't you think he would have played that card to avoid having to pay $25m?
I don't think Trump had any further legal liability with regard to Trump U, so it's not like he played that card and pled to a lesser charge. In any case, there's probably a lot more information here we aren't yet aware of.

(50,554 posts)I know all about Trump. The boy has diarrhea of the mouth and fingers, and you can't tell him what to do. (I'm surprised the Secret Service talked him out of using his own airplane as the presidential transport bird.) If that dipshit had the information on Schneiderman that they claim he does, he would have spilled it LONG ago.
