Report: Eight women accuse Morgan Freeman of inappropriate behavior

Source: Detroit Free Press

Eight women have accused longtime actor Morgan Freeman of inappropriate behavior or harassment, a CNN investigation has revealed.

CNN reports that 16 people have spoken as part of the investigation, and 8 said they were victims of "what some called harassment and others called inappropriate behavior" by Freeman.

One production assistant told CNN that Freeman "kept trying to lift up my skirt and asking if I was wearing underwear." Another senior member on a production staff for the 2012 film "Now You See Me" said Morgan would make comments about her body on numerous occasions.

"He did comment on our bodies... We knew that if he was coming by ... not to wear any top that would show our breasts, not to wear anything that would show our bottoms, meaning not wearing clothes that (were) fitted," she told CNN.

There is no end because there is no beginning ... There should be no excuse for rape, sexual assault, inappropriate touching, etc. but the attraction of men for women is something that will always result in flirtations from both sides, men commenting on women' appearance for good or ill. Unless women just want men to not notice them in any way, I see no end to it. It is offensive to some and to others not so much. For whom are women dressing up, putting on make-up and sexy clothes?

I'm not trying to start an argument or condemn women for calling out what is offensive to them, but I am trying to understand some things about sexual harassment. When is the line crossed between flirtation and harassment?

was going to post this in response to your post in the locked thread -

Yes individuals can "choose" but quite a few, particularly in certain fields, are goaded into "bad behavior" in order to be considered "socially acceptable" (i.e, the "herd mentality" ).

That "sociological" aspect is very very powerful and those who try to buck it are "punished" by the groups they associate with. Those who are very secure in themselves and beliefs manage to rise above it but most people are not like that (thus the old adage about the "sheep" ). This is why racism (and sexism and homophobia, etc) is so pervasive today after hundreds of years.

I should say "many" people because not ALL are like this.
But we see how women throw themselves at men with power and money. So these guys think EVERY woman will want to be with them.
And we've even seen it show its face with powerful women to a lesser extent.
Its time this becomes part of history.

We hear about the bad actors, but the vast majority of people don't act this way. I believe that some personalities choose to use a "permission state" to excuse their bad behavior.

White people who choose to be racist wouldn't be "punished" for not being racist. Instead, some people are more susceptible to indulging their resentments and fears. They seek out others who feel the same way, or they go along with the herd, but there are always lots of individuals who resist. If this weren't true, the majority would never give rights to minorities.

but am saying that humans are social animals and generally prefer to be parts of some "group" - it's a survival tactic ("safety in numbers" ) - and this is not just something that relies on a few instances that we "hear about". There will always be individuals who operate independent of "group", but society shuffles people into "groups" and "subgroups" and each of those "groups" have "rules".

And regarding this comment - "White people who choose to be racist wouldn't be "punished" for not being racist.".... there is a derogatory term "nigger lover" that many whites got tarred and feathered with if they were a "member" (resident) of certain regional (geographic/town) "groups" and socialized with blacks, and they were further "punished" by all different means. Hell, look at how Elvis was pilloried for adopting black music and its styles (he appealed to one "group" but was denigrated and used by a group who was "in power" ) -

"To put on the cultural forms of blackness was to engage in a complex affair of manly mimicry," Eric Lott argued in his famous book Love and Theft—or as Stefan L. Brandt writes "Elvis absorbed as much ‘blackness’ as possible to embark on the popular trends of musical hipness and as much ‘whiteness’ as necessary to cater to the consciousness of the majority." These comments echo Sam Phillips himself, who, before Elvis arrived on his door, was supposed to have remarked wistfully, "If I could find a white boy who could sing like a nigger, I'd make a million dollars." Criticisms of Elvis often were shot through with racism; the New York Daily News said his dancing was "tinged with the kind of animalism that should be confined to dives and bordellos," while the New York Journal-American actually compared Presley's performance to "an aborigne's mating dance." Such a shocked reception only made Elvis more exciting to a younger audience.

And regarding this -

This is what I am basically saying too. But I think you are putting the emphasis on the "individuals" and I am emphasizing "the group". And although you mention that "the majority would never give rights to minorities" if it hadn't been for "individuals", well some of us are still trying to get those "rights", because as we have learned, rights are often "given" (Reconstruction) and then "taken away" (Jim Crow) and then "given" (Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts) and then "taken away" (nullification of parts of those Acts), so "groups" (and group-think) still dominate over individuals unfortunately.

I'll get upset when I hear that he pulled a Bill Cosby or a Harvey Weinstein or even a "Grab 'em by the P*&&y" Trump, but this doesn't rank anywhere near those.

Somebody please put him in his place and tell him to knock it off and let's move on. This guy's on our side!
