GRAND RAPIDS, MI Manufacturers in the Grand Rapids region today announced their opposition to a state constitutional mandate that 25 percent energy production comes from renewable resources by 2025.
Amway leaders are among those that are organizing against the Nov. 6 ballot proposal that the group contends is arbitrary and not in the best financial or environmental interests of the state.
"Good economic policy does not ignore the environment, and good environmental policy cannot ignore economics. This proposal fails on both ends, said Bryan Harrison, senior policy adviser at Amway.
"Let's cut to the bottom line: If Michigan hopes to keep and attract good-paying manufacturing jobs in the future, this will hurt those efforts. While Amway purchases a portion of its energy from renewable sources, the decision to do so was based on solid economics, not artificial government mandates that tinker with markets.

I'm shocked, shocked I tell you to find big pyramids supporting big oil and big utilities.
When the DeVos family distributes the songbooks, the West Michigan Chorale sings loudly.

(40,416 posts)Yes, that Blackwater.
DeVos clan is an insidious, evil entity. Half the shit in Grand Rapids is named after this rubbish family.
The sole alternative is listen to Grand Rapids' own Reasonable Doubts podcast. Thus, your soul will be cleansed of all Calvinistic thought, both Reformed and Dutch Reformed. And you will no longer want to sell cheap soap for outrageous prices and have your family go broke while your house fills with ever more unsold cheap, but expensively priced soap.
The best part is the avoidance of the Calvanist predestination crap. Maybe you like the soap. Or maybe not.
A western Michigander living somewhat north of Grand Rapids, but still close enough to get TV.

(2,574 posts)Looks like here they're speaking for ALEC and their pals the Koch Bros
And agenda that would briing thousands and jobs and clean energy and prosperity to a region...
of course ALEC & their corporate pollution/privatization brigade is fighting it.
It's becoming so easy to pick out "The Koch" in every anti union, pro polluter, anti woman, pro voter id,etc initiative and candidate in the country...from the President to Congressional to State,County and City Candidates. And, of course, the wall of money
in each campaign is another giveaway that these hideously rich enemies of democracy and America's future are In It To Own It.

(12,272 posts)Amway is an off-shoot of a powerful cult (Mormons, psst, don't tell). Mitt comes from MI and says he will build the Keystone pipeline with his own hands. Shale oil is destructive and the biggest resource in the US is in Utah (psst, Mormons, don't tell). Any large group of people with purpose and money has an effect.
