Giuliani: White House wants briefing on classified info
Source: ABC News
President Donald Trump's legal team wants a briefing on the classified information shared with lawmakers about the origins of the FBI investigation into Russia's meddling in the 2016 presidential election and may take it to the Justice Department as part of an effort to scuttle the ongoing special counsel probe.
Rudy Giuliani, one of Trump's attorneys, told The Associated Press on Friday that the White House hopes to get a readout of the information next week, particularly about the use of a longtime government informant who approached members of Trump's campaign in a possible bid to glean intelligence on Russian efforts to sway the election. Trump has made unproven claims of FBI misconduct and political bias and has denounced the asset as "a spy."
"If the spying was inappropriate, that means we may have an entirely illegitimate investigation," Giuliani said of special counsel Robert Mueller's probe. He then invoked the material compiled by former FBI Director James Comey before he was fired.
"Coupled with Comey's illegally leaked memos, this means the whole thing was a mistake and should never have happened," Giuliani said. "We'd urge the Justice Department to re-evaluate, to acknowledge they made a mistake. It's a waste of $20 million of the taxpayers' money. The whole thing is already a waste of money."

But not all Republicans are terminally stupid and ignorant. This stuff has to be stripping a lot of the righteous pleasure from their toxic partisanship.

(33,643 posts)Not that I don't LOVE Schiff, cause I do ... but he, Ted, Nancy, Dianne, and sometimes Chuck ... seem to be the only ones we hear from on the regular about ... anything, really.
What other Dems on Capitol Hill are raising a stink about this particular travesty?
Honest question, I cannot keep up with everything going on

(30,733 posts)My Senator, Tammy Duckworth, has plenty to say. Have you listened to Sheldon Whitehouse? I am sure there are plenty of others. Maybe some other DU members can elaborate on what their Senators and representatives have to say. If it does not get reported on as much as 45 and his band of miscreants, that is not my fault.
I am tired of hearing nothing but criticism of our Congress people.

Final answer.
Neither Booker nor Menendez work for the DOJ.

(128,847 posts)are on the relevant House or Senate Committees that are part of these investigations. I.e., there are a select number, a good chunk of whom have been out there, who are directly involved and would even have access to the info to even discuss/argue on camera. And in general, they will often defer to the ranking (senior) Democratic members to give the Democratic position regarding updates/positions for those Committees.
You mention Feinstein (who is Vice Chair (Democrat) for the Judiciary) but for the Senate Intelligence Committee, Warner is the Vice Chair (Democrat) from that Committee and he has been out there along with Ron Wyden (who has probably shown up in the media the most). And regarding the Senate Judiciary Committee, I've seen every Democrat on that Committee out there continually, in some cases, nightly (save Durbin), i.e., Klobuchar, Blumenthal, Whitehouse, Harris, Booker, & Hirono have ALL been out there, and from the House (both Judiciary &/or Oversight), I have seen Cummings, Nadler, Speier, Swalwell, Connolly, and of course Ted Lieu (who is also big on tweeting) on MSNBC many times.
If you ever watch any of the shows from 6 pm - 11 pm on MSNBC or CNN, these people show up on "panels" and you are probably seeing them but apparently have no idea what Committees they are on.

(35,454 posts)Giuliani says regarding Comrade Trump ..."He's not the subject or target of that investigation"...how does he know?
mr_lebowski
(33,643 posts)The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,674 posts)He's clearly a subject; he could become a target. But evidence isn't turned over until a person is actually charged with a crime - at that point they are entitled to discovery, including any exculpatory evidence. But Spanky hasn't been charged, and therefore has no more right to see that stuff than any member of the general public.

(22,031 posts)We've been told by the Department of Justice that there are three levels of interest in any investigation: in order of increasing seriousness they are witness, subject or target. Depending on the evidence discovered or produced, an individual can move from one category to another.
Trump was told that he was a subject but not a target. Therefore, his position in the investigations is more rather than less serious. To anyone who's observant, it's fairly clear that it wouldn't be a stretch for Trump to become a target.
Giuliani is playing dangerous word games that could-- and will!-- damage Trump's legal positions. Further, Giuliani could put himself in various positions of jeopardy.
Like Trump, Giuliani is an idiot.

In the long run, I believe sanity will prevail and democracy -- our democracy -- will be saved or restored. I say restored because I am worried it may take a decade or decades to reverse the damage that is being done, and perhaps even longer.
I do hope you are right.

(7,537 posts)had nothing to do with the Steele dossier or with Stefan Halper. It had everything to do with George Papadopoulos running his mouth and with the fact that the Trump campaign hired people that were already under FBI investigation. You can try and conflate all those disparate elements and try to make a cake out of it, and the brain-dead 30% will abolutely believe it. But you know what? (22,031 posts)The FBI did not insert an undercover agent into Trump's campaign. They used an informant who had previously provided reliable information to the FBI. This is a long-established and legally responsible law enforcement technique.
Trump is muddying the waters hoping to deflect and distract.
By the way, we have an illegitimate president. James Clapper makes clear in his new book that the Russian interference and assistance to Trump absolutely swayed enough votes to give Trump the electoral win.
The American public was attacked by the Russian government in an act of cyber-warfare. A responsible president and Congress would be turning over every single stone to protect our sovereignty. Republicans won't let that happen because the truth will reveal their complicit and possibly treasonous behavior in the election interference.

(11,885 posts)Need to start filing lawsuits against trump's power grab to undermine an ongoing investigation of himself, and preventing his above the rule of law attempt. Once they gave them anything , it only increased their demands. Just like he's going to do to the NFL, and until they start telling him no , this will escalate, and his demands and behavior will get much worse. The GOP in Congress allowing this makes them co-conspirators to crimes.
