President Obama vows to protect Medicare from GOP
Source: USA Today
President Obama promoted his Medicare policies today while denouncing Republican voucher plans as a threat to the essential program.
In his weekly radio address, Obama said he has proposed "reforms that will save Medicare money by getting rid of wasteful spending in the health care system and reining in insurance companies -- reforms that won't touch your guaranteed Medicare benefits."

The new health care law has improved Medicare services by reducing the costs of prescription drugs, Obama said. It also provides preventive care benefits that include mammograms and cancer screenings.
While not mentioning Romney or running mate Paul Ryan by name, Obama criticized Republican proposals to change Medicare with vouchers that seniors can use to buy insurance on the private market. "One plan would force seniors to pay an extra $6,400 a year for the same benefits they get now," Obama said.

WEEKLY ADDRESS: Preserving and Strengthening Medicare
In this weeks address, President Obama spoke to the American people about the critical need to strengthen and preserve Medicare for our seniors and future generations, because those who have worked hard throughout their lives should not lose their homes or life savings just because they get sick. Through the Presidents Affordable Care Act, nearly 5.4 million seniors have already saved an average of more than $700 on prescription drugs, preventive care services like mammograms are free without co-pay, and the Presidents plan extends the life of Medicare by almost a decade by cracking down on waste, fraud, and overpayments. Republicans in Congress have put forward a very different plan that turns Medicare into a voucher programunder one plan forcing seniors to pay an extra $6,400 out of their own pocket for care-and effectively ends Medicare as we know it. The President believes that our seniors deserve better and will work with anyone to keep improving the current system to give our seniors the security and peace of mind they have earned.

(3,576 posts)they have the hubris to accuse him of being hateful and negative. These two, R&R, are consummate liars and this country is in grave peril if they get elected. I have a dream that we can not only win the Presidency but also take back both houses of Congress. Vote a straight Democratic ballot!

(283 posts)Healthcare for all !!!!!!!!
A lot of our citizens are not insured. The GOP wants to keep it that way. The voucher system is a farce. If it is so great an idea let the Senators and Congressmen test it.
Seniors. Federal Employees, Women and just regular everyday citizens have access to Medicare and Social Security. Even a lot of citizens who call themselves Republicans have healthcare.
So ask why is the GOP so against it ?
Stop the charade in Washington NOW.

(11,541 posts)ALL private entreprises will only have to pay a little more *taxes* (checking a box on tax forms) in exchange for getting rid of ALL *hassles* related to a myriad of INSURANCE policies.
But for that to become law, THREE PROGRESSIVE-LEANING branches of the federal government must be elected in a solid majority and coordinate their efforts all together.
Absent that, it's almost Utopia (as of now) and it's a tragedy.
