Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said on Sunday that he would be open to changing a law that separates immigrants from their children when they illegally cross the border into the U.S.
"We have a problem and it needs to be dealt with. The ideal scenario is that families be kept together and returned expeditiously back to their country of origin," he said on CBS's "Face the Nation."
"We sympathize with people that are coming here," he added. "America is the most generous country in the world and ideally you wouldn't put people through additional trauma once they came into the United States."

(17,003 posts)whatever he has to say to stay in office. As soon as he's told everyone who is here from Puerto Rico has returned home he'll be ripping kids out of their parents arms personally.

(11,256 posts)This is a Trump policy, and he's essentially using it as a threat to obtain concessions for his other racist immigration policies.

(11,885 posts)Him reversing the provision he put into the omnibus bill in 2015 that caused the ACA to skyrocket upward right before the 2016 election in Sept. . Why hasn't he done that? Instead he voted for the tax scam that also caused millions to lose their ACA coverage or seeing more increased premium cost. This is more phony PR from liar Rubio thinking he'll have a shot for the top office again, not for people's welfare. He's helping them destroy Medicaid, Medicare , and to destroy Social Security. Allowing this ripping away kids from parents because they're tying to better themselves is beyond cruelty. Where's all the other GOP Congressmen and women at now? Rubio is another fraud.

Yesterday on CNN
Transcript snip:
JULIETTE KAYYEM, CNN NATIONAL SECURITY ANALYST: Well, first of all let's just be clear here, Sessions is not telling the truth. The law actually does not require separation, the law actually tends to favor. It's on the policy that has family unification for hundreds of reasons, including just the sheer cruelty of separating mothers in particular with their children.
So the law doesn't require it, the law allows it in certain circumstances, and Sessions, and Trump, and the administration, including Secretary of Homeland Security Nielsen have decided to interpret that as in must.
So all of this is on them, and they are trying to sort of weasel out of it. The second issue is, there's no proof that in the past or even today that the threat of separating mothers from their children actually serves as a deterrent to migration, migration is very, very complicated.
People come to this country for lots of reasons, including seeking asylum, which they're lawfully allowed to do. And so the numbers are actually against what Sessions said. The numbers are actually up of the number of people who were trying to cross the border.
And so it did not serve as deterring, and it's cruel. I mean, just to be clear here. I mean, so nothing behind law or policy is requiring it, and it is just not what the United States should be doing, and it's just not necessary."
