Roseanne Barr Apologizes for Obama Aide 'Joke,' Says She's 'Leaving' Twitter

WASHINGTON — Roseanne Barr has apologized for targeting one of President Barack Obama’s senior advisers as the offspring of the “Muslim Brotherhood & Planet of the Apes,” as she responded to a social media conspiracy theory about President Donald Trump’s predecessor.
“I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste,” Barr wrote on Twitter, later adding, “I am now leaving Twitter.”

Barr previously referred to Obama aide Valerie Jarrett as “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj.” She was responding to a Tweet that alleged that “Jarrett helped hide a lot.” That was a reference to a Wikileaks claim that the CIA during Obama’s term spied on candidates for the French election.

Secondly, the problem isn't that the joke is in bad taste, or that the joke is not funny. The problem is that the joke displays Roseanne's bigoted animus, and by the way rests on a falsehood re Jarrett that Roseanne revisits in her notpology.

Valerie was just on Joe Madison's show last week (I think last Friday) and so yesterday, just before he was about to end his show for the day, his staff handed him a copy of that vile tweet and he literally exploded in a rage in the studio. Edit to add - I just heard on my local news radio station that Barr was just dumped by ICM Partners who represents her in the industry. And she now apparently tweeted blaming her use of "ambien" for this.

ABC pulled the show before the outrage could build enough that people would begin boycotting the sponsors, sponsors then releasing statements for 2 or 3 days saying they were standing behind Roseanne, then when their sales begin to fall they do a 180 and pull their support and their ads.
