Poll shows Akin's slide in Missouri Senate race
Source: St Louis Post-Dispatch
U.S. Senate challenger Todd Akin's support in Missouri has plummeted since his remarks a week ago about "legitimate rape" and pregnancy, putting him 9 points behind Sen. Claire McCaskill in a race he was previously winning, according to a new Post-Dispatch/News 4 poll.
More than half of Missouri voters now view the Republican congressman unfavorably, the poll indicates, and fewer than one in five view him favorably.
Akin's fall is especially dramatic among women. They were about evenly split between Akin and McCaskill in a similar poll at the end of July, but women now oppose him by almost 20 percentage points. Even in rural areas where Akin retains the lead, his support has dropped significantly from a month ago.
"I was undecided ... Now I'm not supportive of him," said Bonnie Walker, 75, of Queen City, who was one of the poll respondents. "It's such a negative for Missouri."

Even the most ardent anti-choice women must find that repulsive in the extreme.

(25,111 posts)Why? Because the GOP establishment wants Akins out, and I still think that most polls are controlled by the corporations. Missourians are not liking Akins position BUT the GOP party platform includes exactly what Akins has spouted? Therefore, I would think that the polls would show Missourians at least slightly moving towards Pres O which from what I have seen has not.
The GOP wants Akins out. . .

(2 posts)The only reason Todd Akin is in trouble with his fellow Republicans because he had the audacity to say out loud what the party line is.
Check out "The Repuglican War on Women" on "Grumbles From an Old Grouch" (grumblesfromanoldgrouch.com). You'll be amazed (and a bit frightened) how many anti-women bills Todd Akin and Paul Ryan co-sponsored.

(30,058 posts)Too many people look at the abortion issue and then they vote, we need to elect leaders not protesters. I wonder how the voting record of these same people are on the safety net to care for these children born to families who can not afford them. They are against abortion but believe in abandoning them after they are born.

(51,550 posts)I mean, all he did was display lack of science knowledge. His misogynistic "no exceptions in case of rape" position was well known--he campaigned on it. Why did this guy EVER have a lead???

(94,483 posts)He got 1/3 of the 1/3 of eligible Missouri eligible voters (Republicans) who chose to vote in a three-way race. Not a ringing endorsement.
