Trump Hammers Jeff Sessions: 'I Wish I Picked' Someone Else For Attorney General

Source: Mediate

by Joe DePaolo | 9:04 am, May 30th, 2018

In a multi-part tweetstorm Wednesday morning, President Donald Trump quoted Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) — speaking about Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

I think what the President is doing is expressing frustration that Attorney General Sessions should have shared these reasons for recusal before he took the job, not afterward. If I were the President and I picked someone to be the country’s chief law enforcement officer, and they told me later, ‘oh by the way I’m not going to be able to participate in the most important case in the office, I would be frustrated too…and that’s how I read that – Senator Sessions, why didn’t you tell me before I picked you…There are lots of really good lawyers in the country, he could have picked somebody else!

And then came the five stinging words from Trump:

-snip-

The irony should not be missed that Trump invoked the words of Gowdy to make his point, when Gowdy — Tuesday on Fox News — dealt a serious blow to the president’s spygate claims by standing behind the FBI’s actions.

He does not even realize WHY Sessions recused himself from the investigation.

First, Trump nominated him.

THEN, Sessions lied to the Senate about Russian contact during the campaign.

As a consequence, Sessions agreed to recuse himself from the investigation.

In a normal world, Sessions would have simply failed to have been confirmed or would have stepped down entirely, after his lie was exposed.

But Trump seems oblivious to the actual sequence of events that led to the recusal.

Trump is unable to discern reality. He really is stupid.

How could Sessions know that he would have to recuse himself before he lied to the Senate? Besides, the senior staff of the DOJ apparently told him that he had to recuse himself once the lies became known. Otherwise the entire Department would have been compromised.

Sessions should have resigned when his lies became known. His excuses were unbelievable.

He has wanted the US Atty Gen job for years so he could implement his own xenophobic and racist agenda. He's not giving that up for all the abuse Trump can heap on him and more.

Also, buried in the NYT story is the nugget that GOP senators have privately told Trump that if he fires Sessions, they will not confirm a successor nominee.

...instead, he is insulting Sessions so that Sessions resigns instead of being fired. Now, Trump can fire him at any time. But it wouldn't look good, so that is why all the insults and put downs. To get Sessions to ...resign.

Senate republicans have made it clear that firing Sessions because Sessions would not halt the Mueller investigation would be a "bridge too far"... they won't approve anyone to replace Sessions and would consider the firing obstruction of justice.

I hope they stick to that... even after McCain is replaced in the Senate.

Southern Pride runs deep. Especially for older guys like Sessions. He's at the end of his career and the public and behind the scenes insults, bashing and raging about him as a person and lawyer is deeply hurtful. Sessions knows he can't win a pissing contest with the F'n MORON BUT he knows he CAN get his payback, revenge by helping Mueller.

Maybe he's flipped already, not so much to avoid criminal charges but because of Souther Pride and re establishing face as he enters his twilight career years. And, the ultimate Fuck You Donald payback.

For Sessions to have told Trump before hand, that he had a conflict because he had met with Russians before the election, would have meant that he wasn't going to perjure himself in his confirmation hearing (and afterward) to try to cover them up. Since he did so, and likely would have been ordered to do so by Trump if the conflict had been explained, the point is really moot.

Trump's problem is that Sessions got caught in the lie, and no choice but to recuse.

Seesions isn't in hot water legally. (At least not that we know.)

So, this is about Jeffy being a disappointment to PINO.

So, felons, wife beaters, money launderers AND disappointments. Of course, PINO is the one who chose them.

That was his original reason for recusing himself, I believe. He was actively advising on Trump's campaign (even though he was still a Senator at the time) and he must have heard stuff about the Russians.

For that matter we KNOW Giuliani and Christie were also active on Trump's campaign, and they heard what was going on. They may not have participated but they certainly knew. All 3 of those guys were former prosecutors, and they knew Trump was breaking the law.

Wonder how many people have something serious on Trump.

it's highlighting the deep divide between the repug-led congress (whom Sessions was a member of) and RUMP, who's had no legislative (or for that matter, any other relevant experience as we are all seeing w/ our own eyes).

Divisions in the ranks of repugs can't be nothing but helpful to Dems in our efforts to 'right the ship'. Most of the damage being done is by RUMP's motor mouth which usually has no substance of truth in the remarks. Sessions will go down in the history books as a failed and bigoted legislative want-a-be and cabinet leader.

Also, what vetting do you think RUMP really did in evaluating so many of his nominees? Other than reading the daily KKK or White Power newspapers or watching Faux News, RUMP did ZERO, intelligent vetting. And Congress went along w/ RUMP.

You get what you sow...
