Former S.C. governor Mark Sanford is engaged to marry Maria Belen Chapur, according to a report on the website of a newspaper in Argentina.
Sanford proposed in a restaurant last Wednesday, said a report published Friday on clarin.com, the website for Argentinas largest daily newspaper.
The report, which was in Spanish, describes how Sanford arrived at the Bella Italia Grill, a restaurant in the Palermo neighborhood of Buenos Aires, ahead of Chapur.
The report said Sanford gave the waiter a bag containing an engagement ring and then hid in a bathroom for more than an hour, waiting for her to arrive.

(2,479 posts)I'm happy someone found love. Perhaps this should be researched as a possible cure for republicanism.

(35,433 posts)Unlike other conservatives that live empty, hate-filled lives and only find joy by subjecting the rest of us to their misery. Sanford found happiness in his life, and so, he no longer needs to take his misery out on us.
Good for Mark!

(285 posts)Hope his ex-wife is as happy. Are his ex constituents as happy? At the end of the day, all you can do is wish them well. But, it is one more example of human actions going against the "family values" the GOP keeps ramming down our throats.

(62,683 posts)I hope his former wife falls as madly and happily in love as he has. I really respected her through this ordeal.

(492 posts)If she had, he wouldn't be able to buy an economy class ticket to Argentina, let alone a shiny rock for his paramour.
Either his ex had a crappy lawyer, or she felt compassion for the poor guy, or he reneged on the divorce settlement, grabbed everything from their joint savings and investment portfolio and left her in the U.S. with the kids, a house with a mortgage, and a credit card debt made huge by all the long-distance gift-giving he indulged in for his latin sweetie.
Ah, romance!
