Chris Matthews Accuses Reince Priebus, GOP Of Playing Race Card: ‘It’s Your Garbage’

Source: Mediaite

On Monday’s Morning Joe, MSNBC host Chris Matthews and RNC chair Reince Priebus entered into an incredibly tense argument that kicked off with Matthews disagreeing with Priebus’ comments about the Democrats running a more negative campaign that Republicans, pointing in particular to Mitt Romney‘s recent joke referencing birther concerns over Barack Obama‘s birth certificate.

-snip-

Matthews grew increasingly angered during the discussion, particularly when Priebus began mentioning “foreign influences” on Obama’s policies as the show’s hosts attempted to moderate the discussion.

“I’m not going to get into a shouting match with Chris, so,” said Priebus, later calling his accusations “garbage.”

Edit: I had initially misheard Matthews’ response to the chairman’s comment as “You’re garbage.” In fact, Matthews replied “it’s your garbage.” Apologies for the mistake, and thanks to those who pointed it out.

It will still fun to watch, but Chris was clearly on fire. It was fun to watch...Priebus gave up when Matthews pointed out the ridiculousness of saying "Obamacare" is a some sort of foreign system Obama got from Europe. Enjoyed it.

And reports of other members of the Commentariat speaking out against the Republican bullshit. (I don't watch the tube, so don't remember who those people are.)

Then this Matthews thing.

Maybe there's some sort of sea change going on. Like, maybe there's a battle between the Cowboys & the Yankees in the Republican Party.

Remember the old Kirkpatrick Sale book Power Shift?

http://www.people.com/people/archive/article/0,,20066216,00.html

"There have been only four major power shifts in this nation since its beginning," says writer Kirkpatrick Sale. "The first came with the consolidation of federal control at the turn of the 18th century, the second with the extension of Jacksonian democracy in the early 19th century, the third with the expansion of Northern industrialism after the Civil War and the fourth with the establishment of the Rooseveltian welfare state in the 1930s." In his new book, Power Shift, (Random House, $12.95), Sale argues that a fifth such shift is underway: the decline of the Eastern Establishment and the rise of the so-called "Southern Rim." Born in Ithaca, N.Y. and educated at Cornell University, Sale—who also wrote SDS, a history of the Students for a Democratic Society—lives with his editor wife and their two daughters in Greenwich Village. "I have to admit from the start that I am unabashedly a Yankee," concedes Sale, 38, who discussed the emergence of the Southern Rim as a new political force with Christopher P. Andersen of PEOPLE.

What is the new "Power Shift"?

It is the shift of wealth and influence away from the traditional Eastern Establishment states toward a new power center: the Southern Rim of the U.S.

What makes up the Southern Rim?

Parts or all of 15 states along the 37th Parallel from North Carolina through the Deep South and the Southwest to the Pacific Coast. In the Southern Rim are the Carolinas, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada and Southern California up to and including the suburbs of San Francisco. The region is defined mainly by its sunny climate.

There is no way they wanted full days of the nutcase wing of the party addressing the convention and providing more Akin moments to the media as fodder for evening news. I'm quite sure they would like nothing better than to elect Romney as the nominee and then immediately suspend the convention.

When your mind, heart and soul are united as one in what you are saying, that is, when you really believe that what you are saying (or singing) is true, your breathing is stronger and your voice is very clear. You enunciate clearly too.

Just get into a REAL argument with someone who genuinely has a view that directly opposes yours. Then listen to that person's voice. Strong, clear, and true. That person will probably move his/her lips to make sure you get the sound of every consonant.

One of the signs of a bad singer -- usually a bad pop singer is that they swallow their words. They don't breathe deeply from the belly. They don't move their lips. You can't understand a word they are singing.

Secrets on speaking and singing. Don't be a Reince Preibus. Use your voice correctly.

And by the way, how do Republicans have the nerve to make fun of Obama's origins based on his name when their chair is named Reince Preibus? Just as foreign-sounding to me as Barack Obama. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

And basically you have Mika sitting there like a Stepford Wife. Hey Mika, if you actually view this forum, try standing up for yourself instead of letting Joe Scarb lead you around like a little puppy. Chris was great and asked the questions everyone else on the panel wanted too, but was afraid too. Brokaw may need to retire, because yes it was a blatant call for unity with the birthers, and the Republican party is the party of racism. I hope they read this...
