'Islamic extremist' arrested by feds in Fla. bomb plot

http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/story/2012-01-09/florida-bomb-plot/52466292/1

TAMPA, Florida -- A 25-year-old man was charged Monday with plotting a series of attacks, including the planned use of an explosive-laden vehicle to bomb a Tampa-area nightclub.

Sami Osmakac of Pinellas Park, a naturalized citizen from the former Yugoslavia, was arrested Saturday night. He is charged with one count of attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction and is scheduled to make his initial appearance at 2 p.m. Monday in federal court. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of life in prison and a $250,000 fine.

He was arrested after an undercover FBI agent supplied the suspect with a car bomb, a suicide belt rigged with explosives and firearms, all of which had been rendered inoperable prior to the transaction.

According to the complaint affidavit, the FBI received information in September, 2011, from a confidential source, indicating that Osmakac had asked for al-Qaeda flags. In November, Osmakac and the FBI's confidential source identified potential targets in Tampa, where Osmakac intended on carrying out violent attacks.

The Al-Qassam Mosque, Sami al-Arian, and so many other ties to terror groups like the Palestinian Islamic Jihad are still quite prevalent even after the University of South Florida garned the nickname Jihad U for its radical student population. I recall an engineering class that I needed to take over the summer being cancelled because the female nstructor was "sentenced to death" for teaching men.

"Osmakac had asked for al-Qaeda flags" so the "undercover FBI agent supplied the suspect with a car bomb, a suicide belt rigged with explosives and firearms,"

Either a really badly written article or the truthful paragraphs were in the wrong order. I'm guessing the latter.

"In the video, Osmakac is seen cross-legged on the floor with a pistol in his hand and an AK-47 behind him. Osmakac said in the video that Muslim blood was more valuable than that of people who do not believe in Islam, according to the complaint. He said he wanted “payback” for wrong that was done to Muslims, the complaint said."
