Obama suggests amendment on money in politics

Source: AP

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama says the nation should consider mobilizing behind a constitutional amendment process to overturn the Supreme Court ruling that loosened restrictions on money in politics.

Obama made the comment Wednesday in an online chat with the website Reddit. The 2010 Citizens United ruling paved the way for a flood of campaign cash from corporations, unions and wealthy interests.

The president says that even if the amendment process fell short, "it can shine a spotlight" on super PACs and, in his words, "help apply pressure for change."

Obama says that in the meantime there's a need for more disclosure of the large campaign contributions flowing into super PACs and that such contributions, quote, "fundamentally threaten to overwhelm the political process."

It will never happen. Why? Because Obama's successor will not want it. Money is God in this country!

Believe me, this is the most important issue in America today.

And by successor you only mean a President Romney (if Obama loses 2012) or a President, err, Chris Christie if the Democrats lose 2016?

which we could already be seeing, given the unlimited anonymous PAC money there is. If China or the Saudi's were trying to buy a favored candidate into office, they could do it now and we wouldn't even know.

The Chinese Army has lots of investments here in the US, and sooner or later some politician or politicians will get nailed for accepting lots of money from Chinese Army lobbyists.

This *MIGHT* spur some action to reign in Citizen's United, but even then I have my doubts.

Jack Abramoff says the same shit he went to jail for is still going on.
