I used to love Eastwood, but he can go to hell with the pigs now.
Traitor or fool, Clint?

(3,894 posts)I just think he gets more notice for it these days.
I was probably in my 20's (1980s) when I realized that even as an actor, he isn't that great, he just plays himself over and over with very minor changes, usually not too bright a character, intellectually, socially, or personally.
2pooped2pop
(5,420 posts)but like I said, to vote republican in this day, is to vote for the fall of America. If he is too stupid to understand that, then he deserves to lose my support.
You are right, he does just play himself over and over. I guess I overlooked it because of my nostalgia.
Into my chuck norris trash pile he goes.

(3,894 posts)Enjoyed, adored even, but loved??? And then people wonder why I hate that word all the way around, it means absolutely nothing 90% of the time it is used. /rant
I too adored his early spaghetti westerns, but his conservatism is well known for decades. Since his mayoral term in Carmel, I think it was.
And to see and raise you, anyone aligning with Repubs since the 2000 primary wherein GWB won the nom, is damn near treasonous to my way of thinking, and becomes moreso every day, every nominee, every plank of the platform.
2pooped2pop
(5,420 posts)and I would say I did love Clint. Like people love stars. It's not a real love. Not a personal love. You should try not to let it bother you. Let people love whatever. Coz there's quite a shitload of hate in me these days.
As for the rest of what you say. Exactly!
Lionessa
(3,894 posts)which effectively "love" has, then it is no longer useful as a part of language, imo. Not arguing nor trying to change your mind, just speaking mine.

(295,912 posts)2pooped2pop. I felt sick for a about a day when I first read a few weeks ago that Eastwood endorsed romney.. but, I got over it.
My question.. is Clint going to get up there and lie like everyone else in the goprick party? Is he going to smear President Obama with lies, too?
kinda odd though as the guys he's gunning for are anti dirty harry. but he took some heat for whatever ad it was and trying to steal OWS for a car commercial . I usually don't hold politics against an actor. unless he's crazy like Jon Voight . um army ermie uh screaming guy he's just fine. Gotta remember Britney Spears and Paris Hilton are both Republicans as well. Not that I have a problem with that.

(24,979 posts)that the Dirty Harry movies were the Hollywood manifesto of 1970s right-wing reaction?
Just cos he's done some fancier art since he got the power to do anything he likes, what's the horse he rode in on? Always extreme right, and super-nationalist.

(5,420 posts)Anyone voting republican is either a fucking idiot or a traitor. I would have expected many rich to be part of yesterdays republican party. But this ain't yesterdays republican party even though their ideas are backassward.
Now it is a matter of life and death. There is no room today for asshats. Either he is too stupid to know his party has changed, or he is truly one of them and is a traitor to this country. A traitor to humanity.
So basically, I don't give a shit that he has always been a repiglican. I only care that he is one, endorses one, speechifies for one, now.
JackRiddler
(24,979 posts)It's always been this bad, since Nixon and the "Southern Strategy," Reagan and the "Moral Majority," Gingrich and the first Tea Party-style insanity of 1994, which everyone forgets for some reason, Bush and the war on the world. They're getting more shrill and extremist because they know the long-term demographics (and the permanent disaster of an economy entirely for the rich) are going to do them in. Maybe you're thinking of Eisenhower?

now that guy was a crazy motherfucker. Clint's a little more mellow. He's harmless. He's sorta like Kevin Costner in the harmless let him speak crowd. Charleston Heston... never really liked him all that much anyway. Even Tom Cruise is a little fruity but Charleston was nuts. So i really like Tom in some of his movies. Charleston even fewer. Damn dirty apes. Yeah I could see where that was going... If I stopped watching movies by politics I might as well take a forever nap.
Could take you on the ... is The Incredibles a liberal or a conservative movie. IT"S A MOVIE. don't care. there's arguments for both. It's got a pro woman stance it's Liberal. But my crazy right wing brother says no he loves it because it's the only Conservative animated movie out recently. o_O whatever it's a movie.

(62,439 posts)either way, he's still speaking at the convention. That's enough to brand him the new CH.

(48,729 posts)Sources in both Florida and California are speculating that "Dirty Harry" himself, Clint Eastwood, is about to sweep into the Sunshine State to serve as the so-called "Mystery Speaker" at the closing night of the of the Republican Snooze Fest--better known as the Gathering of Pasty White People--in Tampa.
Eastwood's announcement earlier this summer that he was endorsing Mitt Romney during a $2 million fundraiser at his vacation home in trendy Sun Valley, Idaho--where the likes of "Dirty Harry" Callahan would never be caught--was more than a bit self-serving and revealed that, perhaps at 82, Eastwood is little a out of touch with the wage-earning and beer-guzzling audiences that once gobbled up his cinematic fare.
Dare I proffer that Squirrely Squint--with his estimated net worth of $375 million--has become a one-percenter?
-snip-
If Eastwood is, indeed, the "mystery man" tonight, there will be no mystery in his remarks. They will be riddled with further hypocrisy and deceit. That you can count on. "A good man," declares Dirty Harry in Magnum Force, "always knows his limitations." Apparently, his creator does not.

"In Sun Valley earlier this month, Eastwood hypocritically changed his spin on Romney's appearances, saying that Romney "is too handsome to be governor, but he does look like he could be president." Now that Romney was the nominee, the sarcasm was gone; Eastwood has always been an opportunist."
Sorry, Clint, romney is fucking ugly like a waxed robot psychopath. You've lost it, Eastwood.

I've greatly enjoyed some of his movies, though, and it willgive the Dems the option of pointing in an Eastwoodlerly direction when the GOPers say anything about Hollywood.
If he says "Go ahead, make my day" though, I might throw up.

(1,309 posts)Do you realize how many of us old white guys who have carried guns and used them in combat and been decorated for valor you insult with your too inclusive comments?
As far as what we are capable of being, I find your remarks distressing; I doubt you recognized this when you wrote the comment, but as an adult you have to sometimes engage brain before engaging mouth.
I work several times a week as do many many senior citizens for my community and for people generally in the hopes of building a better America for everyone. and I suspect that if you actually knew me and so many of my age who are physically strong and tough as well as community minded you might sing a different tune.
In any case, let up on the generalities. There are many of us old white guys out there who have to persuade other old white guys that Obama is the guy to vote for and our jobs are made more difficult by remarks like yours.
Do I sound pissed off, good.

(1,309 posts)He only plays heroes. He never was one He only played combat veteran's he was never one. He only played a tough cop, who cared out the victims. He was never one of those either. Like the doctor on the medicine commercials says I am not a doctor, I only play one on television.
Unlike democratic celebrities who demonstrate their belief with actions, republicans hope star power alone will suffice. Actually do you know of anything for mankind that Clint has done? Seriously? All I know about his non-screen life is that he was Mayor of Carmel California, and he tossed out his long time girl friend a few years ago. Does not sound like a strong bio to give him much credibility.
But heck, it is hard to believe he can lie any better than Ryan even if Clint is a professional actor.

(2,500 posts)When you don't have any substance, then there is no option except to trot out some distractions for the real package of Romney. This is why an actor is required. Actors are used to create an image for the imagination.
But when the actor fades back behind the curtains, then there it is: Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan ready and willing to take more of the country's money and distribute among the wealthy who need it the least.

Before he emerged in a controversial Super Bowl ad as the gravelly voice of Chrysler's resurgence, Clint Eastwood was a critic of the government bailout that saved the U.S. automaker..
"We shouldn't be bailing out the banks and car companies," actor, director and Academy Award winner Eastwood told the Los Angeles Times in November 2011. "If a CEO can't figure out how to make his company profitable, then he shouldn't be the CEO."
The two-minute Chrysler ad "Halftime in America" won attention for its focus on American resilience, but raised eyebrows for the way critics said it echoed one of the central themes of President Barack Obama's reelection bid."
