Code Pink Protesters Just Interrupted Mitt Romney's Convention Speech
Source: business insider
TAMPA, FLA. A group of protesters from the women's rights group Code Pink interrupted Mitt Romney's speech at the Republican National Convention tonight.
That the protesters were able to obtain credentials to the convention let alone one that enabled them to get so close to the stage and that they were able to sneak in huge pink signs is actually a pretty incredible feat given the level of security at the Republican convention.
We couldn't catch what the protesters were yelling over the chants of "U.S.A.," so it's likely the television audience couldn't hear them either. Men in ties and security guards flocked to the protesters' section within seconds and escorted the three people out, according to officials at the Tampa Bay Times Forum, where the convention is taking place.
Here's a picture of the protesters:

(94,502 posts)We can disagree vehemently with Mitt Romney and the Republicans. We should NOT interfere with their right to speak freely.

(135,425 posts)too. They made a spectacle of her testimony, ensuring it could never be clipped for TV,, and I was thinking they were paid by the GOP to do that.
They're not on anyone's team but their own. We can point and laugh and not "own" them.

(2,472 posts)to get the sign away, too. It's happened to me before, I was almost punched in the face at a Palin rally when a bunch of angry men surrounded us and were trying to take our banner. He was a young kid - I just looked him in the face and said, "really?? Is that what you really want to do, hit an old lady in the face?" His face suddenly changed and he looked ashamed and walked away, but the rest of them didn't. Shockingly, that time, the police intervened and protected us from the crowd.

(27 posts)While often successful at drawing media attention (especially progressive media), Code Pink's tactics frustrate and anger many progressives like me. We think it backfires and discredits the message. They seem to be every bit as purist as the Tea Party, disrupting and mocking events with Democrats and progressives who aren't progressive enough to meet their litmus test. Rudeness repels potential allies and weakens the cause, no matter how much attention they may or may not get. Their tactics are a massive FAIL, IMO.

(22,271 posts)me think their tactics are just fine. Feathers need to be ruffled. People need to be shocked out of their complacency. I know some "progressive" (wink wink) think they should all just sit down and act like ladies but the rest of us know what it takes to make change and it isn't sitting down for afternoon tea. Code Pink calls out hypocrisy and they don't care which party is committing it -- that's called honesty and honesty is non-partisan.
Only through action is change possible and if that causes some to get the vapors, then so be it.

(8,200 posts)The voice of the Liberals has all but been silenced by the corporate media that has only one objective, maximize profits.
They will not give an equal voice to dissenting opinions that would in any way jeopardize their bottom line. The only time that they respond is when there is a massive b boycott of products they advertise. They only take action when their precious income may be compromised and then only grudgingly.
I need to only cite the media's run up to the Iraq war. They totally failed to inform the citizens that the PNAC was determined to take us to war and their disregard of the facts resulted in massive losses in both lives and fortune. The media talking heads are now failing to acknowledge that the very people who are responsible for one on the most agonizing misadventures in the history of the Republic are now deeply embedded in the Romney organization. These very same people are calling for military action against Iran and if Romney is elected, as I truly fear that he may, could embroil us in a disaster. It could be a repeat of "While America Slept" only once again it will be a repeat of how the citizens have been manipulated to not recognize that it is the enemy from without, but the enemy from within that lead them into disaster. Rest assured the it won't be Romney's kids that will be scarified, just as it wasn't Bush, the Draft Dodger.
