The White House faces a conundrum: the midterm elections are just days away, and their promise that the caravan of Central American migrants would be knocking down the door of the U.S. southern border by now has not come true (the caravan is currently about 900 miles away, in southern Mexico).

Mercedes Schlapp, the director of strategic communications at the White House, took to Fox & Friends to warn that while the big bad caravan is nowhere near the United States, there is a “daily caravan” of migrants that is just as spooky.

“What we’re seeing right now is you’re having this influx of illegal aliens, you’re talking about 1,000 to 2,000 illegal aliens crossing our border daily,” Schlapp said. “I mean we’re talking about a daily caravan coming into America.”

“Then you have the larger caravan, where they have documented about 270 criminals part of that caravan, putting women and children on the front line,” she continued. “And we’re not going to allow them to come and invade our country.”
