Giant 'waves' in the sky are wreaking havoc on our weather, study says

Source: USA Today

Yes, there are giant waves up there in the atmosphere, and they have a huge influence our weather down here.

But the waves aren't water, they're strong "jet-stream" winds that a new study says are acting strangely due to human-caused global warming. This, in turn, appears to be causing more wild and extreme summertime weather for us earthlings – and could increase in the decades ahead.

In summer 2018, for instance, impacts on extreme weather due to the weird behavior of jet stream winds were felt worldwide, according to study lead author Michael Mann of Penn State University.

"It played out in real time on our television screens and newspaper headlines in the form of an unprecedented hemisphere-wide pattern of extreme floods, droughts, heat waves and wildfires," Mann said.

"Everything Trump Touches Dies" by Rick Wilson

Cheeto took huge payoffs from a few executives and owners in the coal industry during the 2016 campaign. So one of the payoffs they requested is to practically dismantle the EPA, OSHA and a few other regulatory agencies. That's what he's doing while we get distracted by his stupid tweets.

Michael Lewis................

Amazing that if some in media, like the CEO's said lets do a complete program(s) on what is happening to these agency's and why, then the psychopath would really be blowing a gasket................

As far as what to do about our warming planet, the song remains the same: "The future is still very much in our hands when it comes to dangerous and damaging summer weather extremes," said Mann. "It's simply a matter of our willpower to transition quickly from fossil fuels to renewable energy."

We're fighting fascism when we should be focused on this. We do not have time for Trump & his shit, but here we are, dealing with it, cuz some frightened, ignorant, bigots couldn't deal with change.

when reading Jared Diamond's book on Collapse, he said then that if we stopped today, there was still 50 years of carbon we would need to deal with. It's got to be more by now.

Seriously, I don't think we have 12-years - especially with the orange chimp and his ilk in charge.

As a boy I was blessed. My father and uncle bought a piece of land in the mountains and over a couple of summers built a beautiful place. It was a sacrifice, but with great dividends. Every summer my brother. cousins and I spent the entire summer hiking and fishing in some of the most pristine areas of Colorado. I especially remember the chill of the early morning air and nights far removed from the lights of the city when you felt that you could reach up and touch the stars that filled the sky with unimaginable beauty. On nights with a full moon the woods and streams became like a magical dream. That is when as evening fell the deer and elk came out to drink from the river and graze in the high mountain meadows.

The nights were cool and conducive to deep peaceful sleep. We often reminisce how much times have changed and I can't help from yeaning for that time that was far less complicated than what we seem to be facing. Yes, there was a devastating depression and a terrible war, put the nation was one in its determination that was inspired by the leadership of a man who had faced his own personal tragedy and assured us that we would prevail.

We held to the motto of our nation, Out of Many One. It is a sad comparison to shallow unprincipled charlatan that now is our pitiful leader. A man so corrupted that he infests the gullible with the same hatred that rules his soul.

So much better than "In God we Trust."

Your Colorado summers sound wonderful! There aren't many pristine places left.

Yes, I know..get a life..

But I kinda like the analogy..as water heats up it starts to swirl around..depending on
the location of the pans cool and hot spots...depending on the variations in the alloys
of the pan...As you move the pan around on the stove, the waters movement changes
and the currents move differently...I think that's whats happening to the earth...Through
the influx of global warming gasses the radiant heat from the sun is trapped and heats
the earth unevenly...years of established weather cycles are disrupted and we experience
abnormal weather...less/more moisture...less/more temperature extremes..

Real scientists types are free to chime in here and tear up or laugh at my..analysis...

He and his wife decided not to have children and they are old enough to die before there is a total collapse. So I did not have anyone to worry about. Man plans and God laughs. Then our great-grandson came to live with us. He should have a good 70 years to go. Now I worry.
