Ohio Boy Scout leader faces child pornography charges

CLEVELAND (AP) — Federal prosecutors say a Boy Scout leader recorded boys changing clothes before and after swimming at a YMCA, his home's bathroom and inside teepees at an Ohio scout reservation.
Thirty-nine-year-old Thomas Close, of Shelby in central Ohio's Richland County, was arrested and indicted Thursday on sexual exploitation of children and receiving and distributing child pornography charges.
An affidavit submitted by Homeland Security Investigations says cybercrime investigators focused on Close after linking him to videos found on the internet. The affidavit says Close told investigators he recorded the videos starting in 2011. Around 5 terabytes of child pornography was found on his home computer.

SANDUSKY, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) — An Ohio man affiliated with Boy Scouts of America has been arrested on child pornography charges.
Thomas Close, 39 of Shelby, Ohio has been charged with sexual exploitation of children and receiving and distribution child pornography.
Court documents say Close was associated with Boy Scout Troop 406 in Shelby. Close had allegedly taken videos of young boys changing before or after swimming at the YMCA in Sandusky.
Investigators discovered the videos at his home, per court documents. The videos were allegedly taken at the Firelands Scout Reservation and inside a bathroom.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A Boy Scouts of America employee in Ohio was arrested Thursday and charged with secretly filming underage boys changing in locker rooms and bathrooms.
Thomas Close, 39, of Shelby, is charged with producing child pornography, as well as receipt of child porn. Federal prosecutors say Close recorded children changing at the YMCA in Sandusky, a Boy Scout camp in Wakeman and in his own bathroom when children were at his home to swim in a pool in his backyard.
Close, who is associated with Troop 406 in Richland County and is also known as “Aqua Joe,” admitted to filming boys changing between 2011 and this year. He also said he had downloaded child pornography since he was 16 years old, and that his sexual preference was for boys between the ages of six and 16, according to an affidavit written by U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations agent Benjamin Shaw.
