'Trump has hijacked the election': House Republicans in panic mode

Source: Politico

House Speaker Paul Ryan got President Donald Trump on the phone Sunday for one final plea on behalf of anxious Republicans: Please, please talk up the booming economy in the final hours before Election Day.

But Trump, unsurprisingly, had another issue on his mind. He boasted to Ryan that his focus on immigration has fired up the base, according to a source familiar with the call.

Two days out from an expected Democratic takeover of the House, Republicans focused on the chamber are profoundly worried that Trump’s obsession with all things immigration will exacerbate their losses. Many of these same Republicans welcomed Trump’s initial talk about the migrant caravan and border security two weeks ago, hoping it would gin up the GOP base in some at-risk, Republican-held districts.

But they now fear Trump went overboard — and that it could cost them dearly in key suburban districts, from Illinois to Texas. Many of them have cringed at Trump’s threats to unilaterally end birthright citizenship, as well as his recent racially-tinged ad suggesting that immigrants are police killers. The president's drumbeat, they say, is drowning out news any incumbent president would be negligent not to dwell on: that the economy added a quarter-million jobs last quarter, and unemployment is below 4 percent.

No person paying the slightest bit of attention to Trump's behavior could have expected anything else. When it comes to how Trump approaches a given situation, EVERYTHING is about him as far as he is concerned.

Given how many Repukes declined to run for re-election, a lot of them saw this coming a mile away. Those who are running for re-election are mostly those in extremely Trumpist districts, and then the morons.

if Republicans get soundly thrashed Tuesday. It will then be the fault of "flawed candidates" who didn't hang tightly enough to his marvelous coattails, or the "evil, fake media", or a dozen other reasons he can make up on the spot. It could never be a rejection of him and his divisive, racist policies.

Don't unemployment numbers change EVERY year around this time? As for the economy, tRump has not had time or bills passed to affect that. It began under President Obama. The gop worked feverishly to destroy anything the President did. Why is Ryan worried, he is "retiring" after this term. Is he afraid he will be caught up in the investigations of Russian money and influence? The entire gop should be worried. Bunch of traitorous crooks.

The year; bonds are falling as interest rates rise, and global stocks have dipped beyond - 5 % in part because of Trump’s tariffs and threats. Not great if you are saving for retirement—or anything else.

Meanwhile 2/3 of the new jobs barely pay living wages.

Let's hope it's closer to 30% than 40. I'm so nervous about Tuesday. I keep remembering how sure Republicans were that Romney was going to defeat Obama, and how stunned they were when President Obama won handily. I know the polls are with us so that's unlike in 2012, but I'm so anxious. I'm still suffering emotional trauma from 2016. I feel like I'm suffering from a mild form of PTSD or something. We must prevail on Tuesday. We must.

And PTSD is a perfect explanation of the way I, and many others, feel. After a shock like that I'm not likely to ever trust another poll again. It'll be Wednesday morning before I'm either breathing a sigh of relief, or preparing for exile to another country, because I will not be able to live another two years under Republican rule with the Orange Anus at the helm.

My stomach is “tied in knots,” something I’ve never experienced, not even in 2016, before. I’m heartened that voting, overall, is up from previous years. Even presidential elections. One thing I heard from other voters last week when early voting was “we need a check on this president.”

Trump has done nothing to make the economy better. It may look good now because he's still riding Obama's coattails, but when the economy feels the effects of his stupid tariffs it's going to tank. This time next year we'll be on the verge of a recession, or worse. Who's going to get the blame then, tiny mushroom head? You certainly won't take any responsibility for your ill-advised trade wars. My guess is it will be blamed on Hillary's emails.

I read an article by a current IRS Agent that stated that
the tax bill passed by IQ45 gave everyone more money in their paychecks.
What was never mentioned was that the tax tables were not adjusted, they are still the same as before.
So all that extra money everyone is getting, will have to be paid back on April 15th.

For example, let's say your gross pay is $2000 every 2 weeks is $52,000/yr.
In 2017 after paying payroll taxes your net pay came out to $1000 per pay check.
The new IQ45 tax break for the middle class now gives you an extra $200 per paycheck,
so your net pay is now $1200 per paycheck. That's an extra $5,200 per year.
Unfortunately, that's $5200 that should have been paid as taxes, because the tax tables
were never adjusted for that money to be un-taxable.

You'll get hit with an extra $5200 in taxes on April 15th.

This is just pure evil.

I'll try to look up the article, if I can find it.

...and have capitulated to him at every turn.

This became inevitable when they didn't turn Newt Gingrich out on his ass in the early 90s. When they made their Clinton strategy revolve around throwing turdballs at him hoping something would stick, and pointing with alarm at the great fogbank of steam rising off all the sloughed-off balls and saying "Where there's smoke...".

When they resolved to make Obama a one-term president and did everything they could to hobble recovery from the Great Recession, one triggered by policies Republicans have spent their careers enacting.

Oh dear, call the fainting couch makers, the Republicans are swooning. He only says and does what they wish they could do. I'm quite sure they love the hateful racism, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, xenophobia, etc as much as he loves stirring it up. If they weren't fearing a shellacking tomorrow, they'd be on the TV defending him instead of swooning.
