Missouri voter turnout projected at nearly 55 percent

Source: AP

JEFFERSON CITY, MO (AP) -- Missouri election officials are expecting voter turnout in Tuesday's midterm election to be the highest in more than two decades.

Estimates submitted to the state by local election officials project that nearly 2.3 million people will cast ballots. That would equal almost 55 percent of registered voters.

The last presidential midterm election to exceed that mark was in 1994, when 59 percent of registered voters cast ballots.

Missouri's top race features Democratic U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill against her Republican challenger, Attorney General Josh Hawley.

This is still better than it could be. We have a long ballot in St. Louis County so it may have been off putting to some along with the usual groups that don’t show up for whatever reason.

the Watergate prosecutor who wears the pins on TV.

Vote for each Democrat one at a time then you get to review your ballot at the end to see if any selections were flipped.

One of the workers there said last time she worked a mid-term there were 37 votes by noon. There was a line out the door at 6am, I had to wait about 30 minutes, and I'd guess I saw about 200 people while I was there.

One of three counties that went for Clinton. I guess I'm sorry I couldn't vote in a redder area?

Way more people voting today than I typically see in a midterm. Go Claire.

I was the 51st voter with paper ballot. There were touch screens going, but I don't have a count. Overall, I would say it was going smoothly. There was a line, but it was nowhere near 2008--though again a different location with more machines so I don't have a good gauge.

I am thrilled from the reports I am hearing from others. It sounds like people are showing up.

I usually vote in the afternoon, and when I put my ballot in the scanner, there are usually about 150-175 ballots in the scanner. This morning I voted at 10 am and when I put my ballot in the scanner there were already 456 ballots in the machines. It was also the 1st time I ever had to wait in line to vote at my polling place. Clare got my vote and so did Renee Hoagensen who I'm hoping can beat Vicki Hartzler.
