House Dems urge emergency hearing on Whitaker

Source: Politico

By KYLE CHENEY 11/08/2018 10:56 AM EST Updated 11/08/2018 11:42 AM EST

House Democrats pleaded with Republicans on Thursday to hold an emergency hearing on the appointment of Matthew Whitaker to temporarily run the Justice Department — and with it, special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.

Judiciary Committee Democrats, in a letter to the panel's Republican chairman, Bob Goodlatte, said Whitaker's "well-documented hostility" toward Mueller's probe places the investigation at "grave risk."

"President Trump has therefore paved the way not only to curtail the investigation, but also to dismiss the special counsel," they wrote.

Trump appointed Whitaker to succeed Attorney General Jeff Sessions, whose strained relationship with Trump foreshadowed his ouster the day after the midterm elections. Whitaker has a long track record of making critical comments about Mueller's investigation, saying he may have exceeded his scope and suggesting ways to starve it of resources.

But we have an immediate problem. It's likely Trump was advised to act during the window between the elections and the change in power.

Seems like some here on DU either don't seem understand Democrats can't "demand" anything yet, or they are just playing the old divide and conquer game. There is an old saying about war. "If your enemies are united, then you must divide them". I have seen that strategy many times over the years here on DU, especially during during elections,, but lately it seems almost daily that I see this going on.

But since we DID win, and since many of these same Republicans are going to be OUT of authority soon ... there may be JUST ENOUGH of them thinking 'ya know, Trump is what f***ed us on Tuesday' ... to make the lapdog GOP leadership seriously consider actually doing something to thwart this ILLEGAL ACT by Trump.

I think that our representatives had better be on guard to stop the Republicans from inciting actually riots. This could be their tactics to declare martial law and grant authoritarian powers to the presidency. Perhaps the Democrats should go as far as actually charging the Republicans with fermenting rebellion to seize control of government.

For an even larger amount of republicans to become voted out of office next election , and this last one was an indication they aren't going to escape justice. Anyone conspiring with them will suffer their consequences, and everyone should remember that at their sentencing hearings. Corrupt criminals will all be held accountable for what they've done ,and for what they're doing to this country. Every one of them.

15. House Dems can either promise or threat

Just threaten them with an investigation of some sort in January. One we don't really care about, but they will.

Don't make them any promises to *not* investigate something.

Play by their rules. Threaten them. They respond to that.

They don't respond to requests or niceness.
