Ex-Obama Aide Andy Kim Beats GOP Incumbent In NJ House Race

Source: Talking Points Memo

November 14, 2018 2:47 pm
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Democratic former national security aide to Barack Obama Andy Kim has defeated two-term Republican incumbent Rep. Tom MacArthur in New Jersey’s 3rd District.

Kim upset MacArthur in the hotly contested southern New Jersey district, widening the Democrats’ edge in the House.

The U.S. House historian’s database shows he’s the first Asian-American elected from New Jersey. Kim has never run for or served in elected office before.

The Associated Press called the race Wednesday.

The district last elected a Democrat in 2008.

They finally called it!

MacArthur, a so-called moderate and previous co-chair of the purported GOP moderates caucus (that had some special name) was the one who partnered with the teabaggers to manufacture an amendment on the GOP bullshit "Repeal and Replace" bill that would have allowed waivers for insurance companies to eliminate minimum ACA requirements and also removed the ban on charging more for pre-existing conditions, among other things.

By supporting the Republican tax cut, he turned his back on his constituents by placing a cap on property tax deductions for Federal Income Tax to $10K. In that particular part of the state where a great deal of new development has gone on along with the whole "McMansion" boom, a $10K cap took a big bite for the folks in his district.

and not just from the McMansion boom. It has been high there for decades (although pretty much everything else there was cheap compared to here in Philly).

many more GOP seats were finally getting challengers after years of being unopposed and others are getting very good challengers.

We all should be dancing with glee, but some are still griping. I have no idea why. This is the most pickups since 1974.

Now, it's time to rebuild faith in our House. Let's not get pulled into the trap that this coward of a jackass in the White House sets for us...daily.

Keep our sights on 2020.
