US Adds New Sanctions on Cuba Tourist Attractions

HAVANA —
The Trump administration is adding new names to a list of Cuban tourist attractions that Americans are barred from visiting.

The 26 names range from the new five-star Iberostar Grand Packard and Paseo del Prado hotels in Old Havana to modest shopping centers in beachside resorts far from the capital. All are barred because they are owned by Cuba's military business conglomerate, GAESA.

Travel to Cuba remains legal. Hundreds of U.S. commercial flights and cruise ships deliver hundreds of thousands of Americans to the island each year. And nothing prevents the government from funding its security apparatus with money spent at facilities that aren't owned by GAESA and banned by the U.S. But the sanctions appear to have dampened interest in travel to Cuba, which has dropped dramatically this year.

"The Donald" knows everything! You don't get to be "The Donald" without being clairvoyant, and having a Russian sponsor named "Vlad the Impaler" keeping track of every American's activities at all times.

small nations, displaced people, minorities, poor people and the disabled. They don''t have the guts to stand against anything their size in power or population.

That is part of how they gain audience: pound the hell out of powerless people, do a lot of strutting and harrumphing about it and then behave as if they've done something for the history books.

Trump is a perfect fit for the scheme.

In short, RepubliCons are evil......

Americans could not be vacationing tourists. Cuba, the government along with non-USA foreign investors, have built dozens of elaborate all-inclusive beach resorts where Canadians and Brits stay. US citizens are not allowed.

We were on an educational, people-to-people exchange. We visited a farm, schools, a medical clinic, rum manufacturer, and cigar plant. That allowed us to circumvent the rules.

I loved the country and the people rank in my book as some of the best in the world.

Old Havana (which is very small) is undergoing reconstruction.
New Havana is modern, clean, and attractive.
Are you gonna tell us that Americans aren’t allowed there too?

Although almost all buildings in Cuba have shabby painted exteriors, they are very nice inside. Paint is a luxury in Cuba thanks to the embargo.

The picture was taken from a private restaurant on a rainy day, overlooking a nearly deserted street.

Lots of new construction, including the luxury hotels mentioned in the article, in Havana.

What was the point of your comment?

All apologies for my tone.

I'm Cuban-American, and it grinds my gears to see this constant depiction of dereliction in Havana.

I mean, can you imagine media discussing major US cities and constantly using depictions like this ...

The people were super and so inventive. My heart breaks that the US has made their lives more difficult. I'm nuts about old things, buildings, cars, antiques, etc. I loved the old buildings.

with will be hit back with karma.

All of Shitgibbon's EO will be null and void the minute we get a new President in 2020.

Then Shitgibbon will be financially and legally ruined for life. And a black mark in our history, and forgotten.

How easy it was to elect a demented sociopath. How easy it was to elect a president who would fill every post with sycophantic incompetents and take every opportunity to enrich himself at the expense of the US taxpayer.

Never to be forgotten!
