A New Jersey couple accused of scamming a homeless good Samaritan out of hundreds of thousands of dollars as part of an online fundraiser that went viral a year ago had initially conspired with him to concoct a "fictitious story," prosecutors allege.

A complaint obtained by NBC Philadelphia says couple Mark D'Amico and Kate McClure made up a GoFundMe campaign in honor of Johnny Bobbitt Jr. so that all three could raise money by deceiving generous donors. They kept up the ruse by preventing donors from acquiring information that would affect their judgment about the campaign and "by failing to correct their story," the complaint added.

The three are expected to face charges that include conspiracy and theft by deception, a source familiar with the case told NBC Philadelphia, adding that D'Amico and McClure surrendered to authorities on Wednesday.

There are many out there scamming people. Their documentation is paper thin supporting their cause and there is no paper trail concerning the monies usage. So far churches still use their money for church causes except maybe MEGA CHURCHES???

I guess this is one of those no honor among thieves things. The couple trying to get more than their share is what brought them down in the end. The couple tried to rip-off the homeless guy, which caused him to go to the police. I guess the homeless guy figured he would rather all of them miss out on the money than allow the couple to get more than their share.

They can get their money back. GFM should have NEVER released all the funds anyway when this blew up months ago with the supposed homeless guy claiming he wasn't getting the money.

Whatever,those who donated should get a refund or that will be the end of GFM.
