Trump Continues to Claim F-35 Jets Are Literally Invisible: 'They're Stealth, You Can't See Them'

-snip-
The president gave a speech from the White House on Thursday in which he spoke about providing support for veterans and military families. But at one point, Trump went on a tangent about his admiration for Americas military aircraft, especially the F-35.
This wouldnt be the first time Trump has spoken of F-35s as if they cannot be seen with the naked eye.
While F-35s are known to be undetectable by radar and other kinds of sensory equipment, can operate in spaces other fighters cannot, and cost around $100 million per fighter, they are not literally invisible as Trump says now and then.

(54,055 posts)Obviously, anyone can see an F-35. It is just very difficult to detect by others when in use.
As opposed to Trump's vanity and his selfishness. They can't be "seen" by anybody, and yet they are instantly detectable by anyone who comes within half a mile of him.

(14,784 posts)after all, he seems utterly and completely incapable of speaking the truth. Almost like that is his superpower/meta-ability.
That would still be an improvement for all of us, and as a side benefit cause him unparalleled distress (can you imagine the internal ravings of a muzzled Dotard?)

(17,781 posts)Even journalists can't get this shit right. They are detectable. All aircraft are detectable. Freaking birds are detectable. The issue is the size of their radar signature at specific distances from the radar source.
As for actual "cloaking devices", I think shitler watched the Star Trek movies a few too many times. Just like his followers, the man's stupidity knows no bounds. Yes. I'll say it. 30%+ of the US population are dumber than boxes of rocks and their idol is the moron and chief.

(6,510 posts)They are no undetectable, much less invisible, they just have a (greatly) reduced radar signature. Long wavelength radars can spot them quite easily, just have a hard time homing in to vector in a missile

(2,682 posts)I went to an air show in Everett, WA. There were many different aircraft, all with signs identifying them and giving information. There was a large open plot of land with a sign saying Stealth Bomber. Totally invisible -- probably because it wasn't actually there. But Trump wouldn't have understood that fine distinction.

(18,581 posts)In the case of stealth technology, it was compromised during the first Iraq war. The Iraqis quickly realized the planes caused an anomaly when passing cell phone towers. That allowed them to be tracked, and as a result prevented us from using them until all communications were eliminated.
Why do I know more about this than the President of the United States of America?

(4,281 posts)And aliens on another planet loved them and listened for their song. And that was saving the Earth.
In Douglas Robinson's fantasies, the dolphins could hear that some aliens were planning to destroy the Earth to make room for an interstellar highway, and they were trying to warn us with their squeals, and even trying to spell it out with their acrobatics, but we couldn't understand them, so they finally gave up on us and hitched a ride with some other aliens.
I like these fantasies much better than those of Donald Trump and his cohorts.

Four F-35 Lightning II fifth-gen fighters, originally expected to arrive at the Royal Air Force Marham airbase in Norfolk on Tuesday, got delayed in South Carolina for a day due to what the defense ministry said were "adverse weather conditions."
British military top brass were peeved over pretext for the delay in receiving their new jets.
"How pathetic," one defense source told The Times. "It is bonkers
embarrassing," another said. "Not sure why weather should delay an all-weather fighter," the source added.
