NRA Files Lawsuit Challenging Gun Safety Initiative 1639

Source: Seattle Post-Intelligencer

By Zosha Millman, 1 hr. ago.

The National Rifle Association and the Second Amendment Foundation filed a lawsuit on Thursday challenging Washington Initiative 1639.

The suit states that I-1639 "violates the commerce clause by banning sales of rifles to non-residents, and that it unconstitutionally impairs the rights guaranteed by the First, Second and Fourteenth Amendments, and Article I Section 24 of the Washington State Constitution by preventing the sale to otherwise qualified adults under age 21 of certain rifles."

I-1639 was passed with 61 percent of the vote on election night, with the principle goal of placing more restrictions on the purchase and ownership of semiautomatic assault weapons. Among the changes enacted under the new initiative, the measure raised the minimum age to purchase firearms to 21, added a mandatory waiting period, a mandatory firearms training course, more frequent background checks, and stricter storage requirements.

SAF and NRA officials call the initiative "an affront to the constitutional rights enshrined in the Second Amendment and the Washington state constitution, especially for young adults." Supporters of 1639 believe that the initiative is a major step in addressing and reducing mass shootings and suicide deaths. -MORE...

If the Initiative goes forward, the age requirement will be in effect on Jan. 1, 2019, and the other initiative measures will be active on July 1, 2019. Others in the lawsuit include Vancouver and Spokane gun dealers, and 4 gun enthusiasts or hunters under age 21.

They need to keep their fucking nose out of my state. The vast majority of people voted to approve 1639, so fuck them, mind your own damn business and stay out of ours.

... to own a nuclear weapon.

The second amendment says "arms", not "guns". I need a nuclear weapon for self defense, and to protect my protect my property. The Founding Fathers allowed anyone to have anything at all. Cannons. Warships. No self respecting New England sea captain would have left port without a dozen cannons....

So I want a nuclear weapon.*

they are, after all, in the same boat. Nobody from the NRA is going to wear orange jumpsuits in 2019. There's a reason the GOP is in a frenzy to pack every court possible with hyper partisan judges.
