Russia Warns U.S. Must 'Immediately' Leave South Syria

Source: newsweek via msn.

Russia has called on the United States to withdraw from a base established by the Pentagon in southern Syria, alleging the presence runs contrary to international law.

Colonel General Mikhail Mizintsev, head of Moscow's National Defense Control Center, addressed a joint session Friday of Russian and Syrian committees tasked with returning Syrian refugees and blamed the U.S. for deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the Rukban refugee camp. The settlement is located within a U.S.-controlled security zone surrounding the Al-Tanf base on the harsh border of Syria and Jordan and has witnessed starvation deaths due to lack of supplies.

"Such a situation in which the camp finds itself reminds concentration camps of the Second World War, which seemed to be long gone. How is it possible in the modern world?" Mizintsev said. "Why, in these conditions, the world community, which cares so much about human rights, continues to persistently keep silent about the humanitarian disaster in the Rukban camp? In fact, being held hostage.

"Why are the official structures of the United Nations responsible for providing all-round assistance to refugees, in fact, are not active and persistent in resolving global humanitarian issues related to the terrible situation of Syrian citizens in the Rukban camp?" he added.

in consideration of who currently occupies the Oval Office. Normally I'd agree with you, but these are strange times in the good old U.S. of A.

Trump is not capable of a sane response.

What happens if Russia shoots at or bombs our troops?

My trust is in the Pentagon to wade through the political mess (and avoid hot confrontation).

I visited Syria in 2000 when it was a functioning country. The US went in their illegally and pushed for regime change using honest pro democracy groups and helped them start a war there. This was botched and a bad idea in the first place. The Russians have a port on the Mediterranean and they had economic influence too. I noticed a lot of shop signs in Aleppo were in Russian, for example. I saw nothing wrong with this. Syria has always been friends with Russia. The US made a grave mistake by creating a situation whereby this beautiful country was destroyed. When I was there I saw no beggars and no sick people with eye problems or third world diseases.
Families were out together in the evenings, small family businesses were the rule. For sure it was not a democracy but people were being fed, they had health care and education. Now they have nothing. We should just get out. The Russians are right, we ARE there illegally! The masterminds of this tragedy should be ashamed. An no, I am not a Russian troll.

A humanitarian tragedy like no other in this century. Nothing in the MSM so Americans have no clue what's happened unless they dig for the information themselves. But very few have the time. Thank you for saying something.

We will pay for this one and for other bad moves, I have no doubt. We destroyed the Middle East and there isn't even a word about it on the MSM, or DU for that matter. It's just awful and unacceptable.

One could say that what we've been dishing out abroad for decades has finally come home to roost right here at home with our president elect, Trump.

Anyone with a thinking mind in America is outraged. But at the same time, the whole globe has been outraged by our behavior for a long time, well before Trump policies hit home.

Sorry to anyone here who resents the negative tone - but I don't want to hear it. This is too critical a time. Google Aleppo. The truth is our foreign policy has been a disaster with R or D in power. Everyone around the globe hates the US at this point. Trump is the inevitable icing that's finally being served to us.

Those newly elected kids yelling at Pelosi's door should be there every day. 24 hours. And in case anyone reading has avoided the details re climate change, please catch up. Not much time left.

There is a lot of good news out there though. Good people doing good, meaningful work. But you won't hear about it in the MSM either. Unless of course you think you're supposed to care about the stock market.

Such hypocrisy from Russia, who acquiesced to hundreds of barrel bombs used against civilians....

Tell us now What Russia is doing for human rights and to help refugees around the globe, especially in Ukraine, Syria and Jordan.
