Graham urges McConnell to allow vote on bill to protect Mueller

Source: The Hill

BY BRETT SAMUELS - 11/18/18 10:53 AM EST

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Sunday urged Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to bring legislation that would protect special counsel Robert Mueller up for a vote.

"[McConnell's] the majority leader, not me. But if it were up to me we’d be voting on the bill and see where the votes are at," Graham said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

The South Carolina senator said there's "no indication" that President Trump or acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker are going to interfere with the special counsel, but that "the best thing the Senate could do is just bring this bill to the floor and vote on it."

Calls for a vote on legislation to block Trump's ability to fire Mueller have grown in recent weeks after the president replaced Jeff Sessions as attorney general with Whitaker, who has spoken critically of the special counsel's investigation.

"When Sen. Mitch McConnell was told by then–CIA Director John Brennan before the 2016 election that Vladimir Putin and Russia were attempting to interfere with the goal of assisting Donald Trump, McConnell’s response took him aback, according to Greg Miller, a Washington Post reporter who has just released a book about Putin, Trump, and the election. The majority leader said he wouldn’t sign on to any condemnation of Russia’s actions and that if the administration went public with the intelligence, McConnell would in turn call out Brennan as a partisan intervening on behalf of Hillary Clinton, Miller colorfully revealed in a CNN interview Tuesday."

I don't trust a damn thing the KGOP republicans say or do. They have proven themselves time and again to be lacking in honor, unworthy of trust.

Then they would have to get two-thirds in each chamber to override. Not happening before January at the earliest with the new Congress and then two-thirds is still unlikely.
