Migrants march toward US border in show of force

Source: Associated Press

Some Central American migrants, mostly men, tried to breach the border crossing between Tijuana, Mexico and California on Sunday, after pushing past a blockade of Mexican police standing guard near the international border crossing in a bid to pressure the U.S to hear their asylum claims.

Mexico’s Milenio TV showed images of at least a few of the hundreds of migrants at the border tried to jump over the fence separating the two countries.

The migrants carried hand-painted American and Honduran flags and chanted: “We are not criminals! We are international workers!” The group mostly consisted of men, although some women pushed small children ahead in strollers.

U.S. Border Patrol helicopters flew overhead, while U.S. agents held vigil on foot beyond the wire fence in California. The Border Patrol office in San Diego said via Twitter that pedestrian crossings have been suspended at the San Ysidro port of entry at both the East and West facilities.

and they aren't going to do anything to help you. Unfortunately, they are better off settling in Mexico and seeking documentation through regular processes. They are just playing into the fascists' hands if they do this.

Also puts pressure on Mexico to get it under control. Lots of economic activity going through the port. People in Mexico that work north of the border.

Colossally bad idea. Now they look like thugs. Might as well turn around and go back home. They screwed their chances.

These people have been moving in caravans for years without this display of unrest threats. It's all designed to give talking points to Trump's base for 2020.

Post Truth is not just about fake news - it's about concocting actual news if need be.

That's usually the toughest ruse to sort out (all the more so given how lazy most of our news media is).

While I appreciate their plight in their home country, things will be MUCH worse for them here in America then what they could ever imagine. They should stay in Mexico.

Migrants approaching the U.S. border from Mexico were enveloped with tear gas Sunday after a few tried to breach the fence separating the two countries.

U.S. agents shot the gas, according to an Associated Press reporter on the scene. Children were screaming and coughing in the mayhem.

Earlier Sunday, several hundred Central American migrants pushed past a blockade of Mexican police who were standing guard near the international border crossing. They appeared to easily pass through without using violence, and some of the migrants called on each other to remain peaceful.

They convened the demonstration to try to pressure the U.S to hear their asylum claims and carried hand-painted American and Honduran flags while chanting: “We are not criminals! We are international workers!”

Heck, if Trump lets one check point get overrun, this could give him ammo for his build the wall demands, as well as a further crack down on immigrants. Totally idiotic to try to breach a border crossing by force. The facists on the right would welcome an escalation of force and rhetoric.

Thousands of children separated from their parents. Some of the parents, as I have understood, were deported. Could some of these immigrants be trying to get their children back?

Is it too far fetched to ask this question?

Snip

When are they going to give them back?” Mr. Jacinto-Carrillo asked of the thousands of children still in custody. He had trekked to the United States with his 5-year-old daughter, Filomena. He was deported. She remains in foster care in New York, where she recently turned 6. “I want her back in Guatemala,” he pleaded.

GUATEMALA CITY (Reuters) - Nine Guatemalan children separated from their parents at the U.S. border under President Donald Trump’s “zero tolerance” immigration policy were flown home on Tuesday and reunited with their deported families, Guatemala’s government said.

Nazario Jacinto Carrillo, a farmer from the village of Huehuetenango, embraced his 5-1/2-year-old daughter after what he said was their three-month separation since he was deported back to Guatemala and she remained in the United States.

I am also unaware of any separations where the child was kept in the USA and the parents deported.
