Bump stocks gained national attention last year after a gunman in Las Vegas rigged his weapons with the devices to fire on concertgoers, killing 58 people. Here we go! I think Trump and GOP will wish they had done this right after the Vegas shooting - and not now when were starting to see the first strains of doubt from his base. He had the political capital to burn then - and it would be forgotten by now.
Plus - Trump, via his public remarks on bump stocks (bump stocks are gone), is in a very precarious position and would look extremely bad if another mass shooting involving bump stocks were to take place. He's still exposed if one happens and it was a bump stock purchased post-Vegas.
