Sworn affidavits allege US House District 9 election was mishandled

Source: WSOC-TV (Charlotte, NC)

North Carolina's Elections Board delayed finalizing the results Tuesday of the close U.S. House race, as officials appear to be scrutinizing potential wrongdoing within the 9th Congressional District.

One of those sworn affidavits claims that man, Leslie McCrae Dowless, Jr., would receive a $40,000 bonus from the Harris campaign if Harris defeated Democrat Dan McCready.

Another affidavit said Dowless was “doing absentee” for Harris. The document claims Dowless said, “You know I don’t take checks. They have to pay me cash.”

Another affidavit points to workers going to voters' doors to collect absentee ballots. One voter said a worker told her she would finish the voter’s ballot for her. Both acts would be illegal.

Think the last US House race has been called? Think again. There is still the possibility of adding one more Democrat to the US House of Representatives.

In one of the closest House races in the country, Democrat Dan McCready is just 905 votes (0.3%) behind presumptive Congressman-Elect Mark Harris in a district that hasn't elected a Democrat in over 50 years. County boards of elections had already certified the votes in all elections. The state board of elections met Tuesday in what should have been a routine meeting to finalize the process by certifying the votes. But one of the Democratic BOE members raised an issue about impropriety with some votes in the 9th CD US House District race and, after a closed door meeting, the board voted unanimously to defer certification in this race.

A few minutes ago, local news channel WSOC-TV revealed affidavits from voters that indicate fraudulent practices may have been used in conjunction with a number of absentee by mail ballots in two of the district's counties. These are counties that suffered under Hurricane Florence. The Republican operatives informed voters that they had been "assigned" to their area to collect ballots, leading the voters to believe that the ballot collection was being done in the wake of the hurricane. While we don't know the extent of the improprieties at this point, potentially hundreds of ballots that could be called into question.

There is a Board of Elections teleconference meeting scheduled for 10 am tomorrow morning. The BOE has the authority to call for a new election if there is evidence of significant improprieties. Ultimately, the US House itself could determine which candidate will be seated if there is no resolution by the time that Congress convenes in January.

Rethugs have to cheat and then accuse everyone else but themselves of cheating. It's as constant as the sunrise.

Too many cases of people being told that they had voted absentee already
And other patterns of change in elections that appeared in multiple places around the country
