Evidence ended in former Omaha police officer Scotty Paynes trial Friday without testimony from one major player in the case.
Payne himself.
Paynes defense team elected not to call the former officer to the stand in a trial alleging that he committed second-degree assault and weapon use by pulling the trigger on a Taser 12 times on a mentally ill Oklahoma man.
It was an interesting decision. On the one hand, Payne has the absolute right to not testify. All juries are advised as much.
Former Omaha Police Officer Scotty Payne heads to courtroom 411 in the Douglas County Courthouse for a hearing on Feb. 7. He is charged in the death of Zachary Bearheels.
