Theresa May confidence vote: Live blog

Source: Politics.eu

Conservative Party deputy chairman James Cleverly was the first MP to speak to reporters following Theresa May's pre-ballot address to MPs.

He said May had recognized “disquiet” about her Brexit strategy (there's an understatement) and that “she also recognizes a lot of people aren't comfortable with her leading us into a future general election.”

He emphasized May's message about rebuilding the relationship with the Democratic Unionist Party, while pursuing her goal of getting new assurances on the Irish backstop from European leaders. But she also warned MPs in no uncertain terms about the risks of a leadership contest now.

“She laid down very starkly this is what we were risking … she said very clearly this would be a very, very bad time to replace a leader, it would cause a delay, it would place a question mark over the timetable, it would give others the excuse to delay or even pull Article 50 completely. She said that would be completely unacceptable to the British people.”

There's always more than one vote in a Democracy. Things change. People change.

If we didn't change, here in America, we'd still have slavery. Women wouldn't be able to vote. And Trump would be President* for life.

Vote again. Vote on the specifics, not on an abstract principal.

"At least 48 letters sent to chair of 1922 Committee of Conservative backbenchers"

Need a second referendum or cancel Brexit altogether. May hasn't been able to get this together since the first referendum. She cannot govern with a minority coalition.

New referendum! She can't pull it together and the March deadline looms. I doubt Britain wants to crash out of the EU.

world markets would shoot up, and it would put a dent in Putin's armor. I think it would also curb some of the right-wing backlash going on through the rest of Europe, since the UK leaving is destabilizing to the EU. I know those are generalities, but I can't see a single down side with cancelling Brexit.
