More than half of Americans say they didn't get a pay raise this year

Source: Marketwatch

Although the economy saw new peaks in 2018, not all Americans report reaping the benefits. The majority of workers say they saw no salary increases this year, according to a new survey.

More than 60% of Americans said they didn’t get a pay raise at their current job or get a better-paying job in the last 12 months, according to a survey released Wednesday from finance site Bankrate.com. Meanwhile, executives have seen a surge in compensation, according to an August study from the Economic Policy Institute. The average chief executive officer at the 350 largest firms in the U.S. received $18.9 million in compensation in 2017, the study showed, a 17.6% increase over 2016.

Despite those disparities, 91% of Americans say they have the same or greater confidence in the job market than they did one year ago, according to Bankrate.

The survey findings suggest not all Americans are experiencing the modest pay growth that occurred this year, a welcome end to nearly decade of stagnant wages.

“The result of trickle-down economics is plain to see in this survey,” Melissa Boteach, senior vice president of the Poverty to Prosperity program at the Center for American Progress, said. “The people at the top are getting richer and richer and everyday working families are not getting their fair share.”

Any increase in wages by both myself and my wife is eaten up by increases in health insurance. The only way to get an increase in pay is via promotion. I haven't had a pay raise that was worth a damn since the late 1990's.

Meanwhile, corporate profits have skyrocketed due to decreased tax burdens which in turn have been placed on individual citizens.

Want to know why college students owe a small fortune after graduation? Tuition is no longer subsidized by private sector taxes.

Same goes for every other government service that started to beg for funding after the implementation of trickle down economic, and wages, and health care, and education, and public safety.

Doofus wants to use 14th century technology to keep our borders safe? Sweet. $700 billion to the DoD to subsidize every Tom, Dick and Harry that can figure out a way to creatively kill the other guy? Noyce.

"Modest pay growth". WTF? They writing about those that benefited from new minimum wage laws?

The consensus was the only way to get a decent pay raise any longer is to flip jobs every few years.

That's what I did back in July after four years with that employer.

change hands in the Senate and Pres. too. People are realizing that no one cares about them or their economic status in Washington DC, and if anything, when you review the stats provided w/ this original posting,

91% of Americans say they have the same or greater confidence in the job market than they did one year ago, according to Bankrate,

which tells me one thing that people will be changing their jobs into better paying jobs, and leaving those jobs behind that didn't keep up or provide a modest pay raise.

This means more instability in the job market and certain areas of the economy are going to take big hits as they find out that they are unable to keep workers and replace workers.

Serves them right as workers do deserve better pay after 10 years of stagnation...
