'There's no plan': Congress skips town as shutdown nears

Source: Politico

Without President Donald Trump to worry about, a bipartisan deal would likely sail through Congress to fund the government ahead of the holidays. But with Trump fueling the border wall brinkmanship, everyone in the Capitol has basically stopped talking.

The House and Senate left town Thursday with no strategy to avert a partial government shutdown next week, putting Congress on the brink of an intractable conflict that could drag out through New Year’s Day — furloughing hundreds of thousands of workers and costing taxpayers millions.

Frustrated lawmakers in both parties are complaining that congressional leaders have made zero progress since Tuesday, when Trump stunned even his fellow Republicans by boasting that he would take the blame for the closure of a dozen federal agencies if he doesn’t get money for his border wall.

Lawmakers say there is no public plan to prevent a partial government shuttering. And no secret plan either.

...snip...

Democrats say they’re waiting on Republicans, and Republicans say they’re waiting on Trump.

She would never ask, but the last time this was threatened she freaked out. We told her not to worry, but worry she did. Why do they need to terrify people who worked all their lives and now are old and infirm. I truly hate all of them.

8. IMHO, the best thing to do right now is shut down this farce some are still willing to call

"government". I understand some people will feel a great sting from a shut down. Although I won't call this good I will say perhaps some of us need to suffer a little in order to finally acknowledge that our land is being run by a criminal enterprise (the GOP) and that perhaps it is time to forget the "wait and see" attitude and as well it's time to stop looking for "heroes" to save us. It's time we become our own heroes and saviors.

10. The GOP is waiting on Trump? Hell with it, force him to sign or not.

He'll cave anyway and sign it. They all know he will; just tell him it's a declaration for "National Double Scoop Ice Cream" day or something like that.

Soooo....who's profiting from this? Certainly not the politicians. And Pelosi and Schumer pretty much ensured it won't hurt the Democrats.

Is this some sort of Randriod Dominionist or DeVos/Prince/Amway fantasy move to create a new revolution and "restructure America" into the Plantation Economy image they want it to with the survivors? Force so much hardship on the general population of the U.S. that people will start shooting each other like an over-populated Rat Colony eating at each other for scraps of resources? There are people who salivate at the thought of a hundred million American Citizens just - disappearing.

It's either that, or a trick of out of Putin's playbook. Otherwise, a government shutdown serves no one but looters.

Just like their ignoble republican Draft-Dodger-in-Chief, republicans are dodging their responsibilities to America.

Do your job.
