Police: Teacher charged with cutting student's hair kept tufts in purse, bathroom drawer

VISALIA, Calif. – A tuft of hair stashed inside a paper bag for safekeeping is one of several details emerging from a "disturbing" incident that threw a California high school in the national spotlight last week.

Science teacher Margaret Gieszinger made headlines Dec. 5 after several videos surfaced that show the teacher seemingly forcibly cutting at least one student's hair – while shouting the national anthem.

Court documents detail the bizarre scene and what witnesses say happened after students ran from the classroom at University Preparatory High School in Visalia.

One detail: Pieces of hair found in Gieszinger's pricey purse.

I can't believe the young man sat there and let her cut his hair. At least when she reached for a girl's hair, the girl brushed her hand away and got the heck out of there.

People who are obsessed with the hair length of others are often control freaks. When I was a teen, my step-father was always trying to find reasons to come at me with scissors. Finally, one day, he slammed my ass into the kitchen chair with scissors in his hand, roaring that he was sick and tired of my hair. It was only due to my Mum's intervention that he backed off me. And yes, he was the ULTIMATE control freak. He was always on a power trip.

While singing the national anthem. The statements by her husband were that she isn't like that and doesn't understand what was wrong with her and said he'd never seen her act that way.

I hope they have her examined by a mental health expert. This is so bizarre.

Hopefully she'll get the help she needs to become stable and lucid again. It's really unfortunate that her condition, whatever it presumably is, resulted in a bunch of children being traumatized. Bizarre situation all the way around.
