John Kasich says he couldn't beat President Donald Trump in a GOP primary

COLUMBUS, Ohio—Gov. John Kasich on Wednesday voiced doubts about challenging President Donald Trump in 2020, saying right now he couldn’t beat the president in a Republican primary.

“I don’t get into things that I don’t think I can win,” the term-limited governor said during a Columbus Metropolitan Club luncheon. “And I think right now, today, inside the Republican Party, I can’t beat him [Trump] in a primary.”

Kasich again brought up the prospect of running for president as a independent, though he noted that such candidates usually don’t win.

“I don’t have to be a candidate to have a voice,” the governor said. “Because I will have a voice, believe me.”

… I often get called a dope for saying this but.. we picked the best candidate in 2016. Hillary Clinton won the vote handily, and would have won over all the other Republicans except one would have given her trouble: Kasich... the others were all various clowns, but Kasich has an "appeal" that makes people forget how right-wing he is... he's just so grandfatherly and "no nonsense" acting. It's good he did not win the Primary... let's hope he or someone like him can't win the primaries...

I disagree. Trump was one of the most beatable candidates they had. "Huge" negatives. She would have had a tougher time, not just against Kasich, but also people like Jeb! and Rubio and even Christie, IMO.
