Trump calls GOP senators to White House after threatening shutdown over border wall

Source: abc news

Just hours before a midnight deadline that could bring a partial government shutdown, President Donald Trump called Republican senators to the White House Friday morning to rally them in a renewed fight for his proposed border wall.

Earlier Friday, the president threatened a government shutdown in morning tweets, pushing hard for the Senate to pass $5 billion for his border wall as the House did Thursday.

"Shutdown today if Democrats do not vote for Border Security!" Trump tweeted days before the Christmas holiday.

Too bad he wouldn't negotiate on DACA. He turned down his best chance at raising the money for his border wall. Many of his followers have forgotten this. I am very happy he did not get the money offered him at that time, and very sad that DACA recipients did not get closure.

Maybe he is going to read them this quote;

Or would that then cause enough Republicans to vote no that they wouldn't have the 2/3rds necessary?

That tactic does not allow a veto override since its technically not vetoed. However if he does nothing for 10 days then the legislation becomes law automatically. At least that is my understanding.

Trump tried to get them to go nuclear, 4 Senators voiced opposition, unbelievably Orin Hatch, L. Alexander, Corker, and Flake. Trump wanted to blow up the filibuster.
