Border official announces changes after 2 migrant children die in US custody

After two Guatemalan children died in its custody, US Customs and Border Protection is changing how it handles health care for migrant detainees.

CBP Commissioner Kevin K. McAleenan announced the changes Tuesday, the same day his agency reported the death of an 8-year-old Guatemalan boy late Christmas Eve.

The boy was identified as Felipe Alonzo-Gomez, US Rep. Joaquin Castro said. Felipe's death came 16 days after another Guatemalan child, 7-year-old Jakelin Caal Maquin, died at a hospital in CBP custody on December 8.

This inhumane treatment of the least amongst us is reprehensible. I heard some of the people who helped some of the migrant children dumped off in El Paso had not eaten or drank water in days. And at least two have died in their custody. KKKirstjen Nielson needs to be held accountable for the barbaric actions of her department.

5. They've also been dumping them on the streets of San Diego.

Thankfully people learned where and starting bringing backpacks full of food, water, toys, blankets etc.

Later a temporary shelter got set up in SD with help from nonprofits and the community. They were dumped with nothing, not even water or a phone number to call for help.

I wonder if they were even advised where to show up for asylum hearings. I'll bet they weren't, and then if picked up again they might be subject to deportation. Scary, heartless and inhumane.
