The suspect in the shooting death of a Newman Police Department corporal was arrested at a home near Bakersfield on Friday morning, the Stanislaus County Sheriffs Department said.
Gustavo Perez Arriaga, 32, was arrested in connection with the Wednesday morning shooting of Newman Cpl. Ronil Singh.
Arriaga was on his way to Mexico, said Christianson, adding that the house in Lamont had been under surveillance prior to the arrest.

(51,523 posts)Immigrants are less likely to commit crime than the average American.
Apparently the murderer came here illegally, but a wall would not have stopped a person like that from coming here.

(4,642 posts)Had the chief of police bitching about sanctuary cities, and sure, there will be criminals abusing this, but 1/10 of 1% abuse isn't worth all the neg press over this incident. Too bad msm doesn't go after the Saudi's for there murders.

(823 posts)The shooter should not have been in this country. He was twice busted for DUI, was in California illegally and was running back to Mexico to avoid prosecution. The others arrested were also in this country illegally and were aiding this guy in his flight from justice. This is a case of a bad actor in this country illegally, who should not have been here after his first conviction for DUI much less his second. If someone is here illegally/undocumented and commit no crimes, work and otherwise try to better their family situation then there should be a method for that person to become a citizen. But once you commit a crime (Obama's policy) you should be sent back to where you originated and be put on a watch list nationally for immediate detainment and repatriation to your home country. I live in Texas, surrounded by more and more Hispanic families each year, and I am glad they are here. But even they do not want known criminals living among us, and it does not matter what nationality those criminals are.

(6,241 posts)Law enforcement in CA are banned from sharing any information with ICE, or using any public resource to assist ICE in any way, even voluntary.
So you pick up an idiot for his 4th DUI, and you know hes in the country illegally, you cant get him kicked out of the country. Jails are full, so judges let them go. Hes free to go out and kill someone.
Several CA municipalities which wish to cooperate with ICE have filed suit against the state.

(767 posts)Then he would have been caught sooner. I really think it was VERY lucky they caught this guy before he ESCAPED. One rotten person does not make everyone rotten. I think all the GOP in government are really rotten, but many of the people who voted for them may not be so ROTTEN.......

(2,728 posts)Then he never would have been in the position to kill Officer Singh. He should have been deported, not given documentation papers.
Arriaga has destroyed two families with his actions.

(5,284 posts)2 DUIs and being a known gang member would be a sure flag. Sanctuary laws are poorly written and often protecthe people even President Obama felt should be deported.
