LePage leaves protest note on Golden election certificate
Source: Portland Press Herald
In defiance of a voter-approved, ranked-choice election law Maine's outgoing Republican governor wrote that the Democratic challenger's victory over incumbent Republican Congressman Bruce Poliquin race was "stolen."
Gov. Paul LePage signed off on the states first-in-the-nation ranked choice election to Congress on Friday, but in doing so he also left a note of protest against the voter-approved election law that propelled Democratic state Rep. Jared Golden to a victory over incumbent 2nd District Republican Bruce Poliquin.
LePage initialed Goldens certificate of election but also wrote stolen election beside it before sharing a photo of the certificate on Twitter with an additional comment.
Ive signed off on the CD2 election result as its no longer in federal court. Ranked Choice Voting didnt result in a true majority as promised-simply a plurality measured differently. It didnt keep big money out of politics & didnt result in a more civil election #mepolitics, LePages official account tweeted.

(5,168 posts)Ranked choice voting is just common sense, and eliminates the need for runoff elections which cost more money.

(2,064 posts)Jill Stein running against Hilary Clinton won't make as much much difference, because most of Stein's voters would have Clinton as a second choice.
It's more democratic, so Repugnant Goons hate it.

(34,857 posts)All you have to do is look at the polls prior to Perot jumping back in the race and compare them to after he jumped back in.
At the end of September, before Perot announced his return to the race, Clinton led Bush 51-35 - after announcing his return, Clinton's lead over Bush shrunk to 47-35-10. Had Perot stayed out of the race, it's likely Clinton wins by a much larger popular vote.
Ultimately, according to exit polls, Perot votes were evenly split between Bush and Clinton. Certainly not enough to cost Bush the race.

(20,174 posts)But on a state by state basis, Perot cost Bush votes in states that mattered. It didn't matter that he pulled votes from Bush in California. It mattered that he pulled votes from Bush in Kentucky, Louisiana, Georgia, Tennessee etc.

(10,500 posts)There is no reasonable formula that would have had Bush winning had Perot not been in the race.
Besides, when Perot re-entered the race Clinton was up by 15 points. And, again, all polls prior to election day showed Perot taking more from Clinton than from Bush.

(19,195 posts)when they lose elections legally, even after they've exhausted their repertoire of dirty tricks and voter suppression. What is this country coming to when a republican can't cheat, bribe, or lie their way into elected office? It's a sad state of affairs for the republican party, I tell you!

(6,496 posts)Although, I've been annoyed with his talk about running against Mills in 4 years if things aren't going the way he wants them too. Asshole, you can't move away from Maine because you just can't stand it here and then come back 4 years later to run for gov again because you don't like the way things are being run in your absence. That won't go over well even with the special sort of moron that would otherwise vote for him. He leaves then Mainers are going to want him to stay the fuck out of it because he gave up on Maine. Plus most of us fucking hate him. He was the reason why Mainers wanted ranked choice voting to begin with. Hey, we got rid of Poliquin and got Golden because of it. So that's a good thing. Mainers overwhelming voted in his nemesis Mills to replace him and voted in Democratic majority in our legislature, so the he knows we don't like him. He's being pissy about it, which is to be expected from him. I'm hoping that after not being Maine gov for 4 years and not living in Maine he will realize that he's personally better off not messing around in Maine politics ever again. Just retire in Florida and happy already you dumb grump.
