Elizabeth Warren launches 2020 presidential exploratory committee

Source: NBC News

WASHINGTON -- Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren announced Monday that she is establishing an exploratory committee to consider a 2020 White House bid, vowing to be a tenacious advocate for economic fairness and rebuilding the middle class.

In filing paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to allow her to begin raising and spending money to benefit her likely candidacy, Warren becomes the first big-name Democrat to take formal steps to enter what could be a crowded, expensive and extended contest for the party's presidential nomination.

Warren quickly shared the news with her supporters via email and social media, calling on them to join her in a fight against the "dark path" favored by special interests that she says is hurting the middle class, and political corruption that "is poisoning our democracy."

"Our government is supposed to work for all of us, but instead, it has become a tool for the wealthy and well-connected," she says in a more than four-minute video announcing her exploratory committee. "If we organize together, if we fight together, if we persist together, we can win."

Her message and appeal are much harder to get across, especially in the era of Twitter and instantaneous news cycles. Not a personality pusher, she still has to face the inevitable snarky, sexist blow-back: "Shrill, irrational, socialist, pushy, bossy, Pocahontas, too much like the dreaded HRC"? America has to get over the sexist stereotypes at their own peril. Women as much as men. Still can't believe we got an incompetent a-hole like Trrump bc the tone of voice of a completely qualified woman like Hillary rubbed them the wrong way.

that really is ours for the taking that we may neglect nailing down our House and miss some needed seats in the Senate.

Elizabeth is one the many great potential candidates we have, she certainly has the capability of going at least as far as the Convention.

She may be a regular politician as you say, but as far as I know, she never made such a promise.

You may be thinking about articles like this...

https://www.politico.com/story/2018/04/05/warren-pledges-full-senate-term-2018-505308

...where her actual words don't support the editorial spin of the headline/URL. (A "plan" is not a "promise." )

Similarly vague quotes can generate the opposite headlines as well, as in...

https://dailycaller.com/2018/08/21/elizabeth-warren-commit-full-term/

https://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2018/03/11/warren-won-pledge-serve-full-senate-term-but-says-she-not-running-for-president/5nDruJpBbMP2aiQKBygDLM/story.html

Look for the quotes, not the headline spins, and you'll find her wiggle room. No promises/pledges. And she knows how to choose her words well enough that, if she didn't want there to be wiggle room, there wouldn't be.

"Wiggle Room" is what a politician provides themselves with. I'm guessing the average voter doesn't think "well, she didn't SAY she'd never change her mind about serving her full term, so that's okay".

back in 2015, folks (here) were pointing to her as being some transcendent improvement over a "politician" like Hillary Clinton. As long as people evaluate her as a politician like everyone else, I have no objection to their ultimate choice.

I read the original, and it shows how she had her start as a serious progressive policy wonk. Now she is often viewed as a liberal fire brand, but she had her start as a person who dived deep into th practical impacts of policy on the middle class. You can see why President Obama originally nominated her to be head of the consumer protection agency.

by definition, are progressives... haven't you heard?! Labels aside, Elizabeth represents the best of progressive American values, especially basic human rights and economic equality. She is highly capable and, no doubt, if she wins the Democratic nomination, will shatter the glass ceiling, along with The Shroom in a 2020 showdown.
