House Democrats plan Thursday vote to end shutdown

Source: Politico

House Democrats will propose a two-part plan to reopen the federal government once they take power on Thursday, according to multiple Democratic aides.

Their proposal would fund the Department of Homeland Security until Feb. 8, and all other closed agencies — such as Transportation, Commerce and Agriculture — for the rest of the fiscal year through Sept. 30.

Democrats intend to vote on the plan Thursday, but Senate Republicans are unlikely to accept the measures.

House Democrats ready strategy to reopen government, deny Trump wall money

Democrats have settled upon a strategy for attempting to reopen the government when they take control of the House Thursday.

Democrats plan to pass a stopgap spending bill to fund the Homeland Security Department through Feb. 8. The legislation would continue existing levels of border funding without giving President Trump the new wall money he is seeking.

It is the same bill that the Senate passed unanimously the week before Christmas — before Trump decided he wasn’t going to support it, leading to the partial government shutdown that began Dec. 22.

The House will also pass six other bills to reopen federal agencies that have been shuttered for more than a week, sending hundreds of thousands of federal employees home on furlough. Those bills would fully fund the agencies in question through Sept. 30.

wait until they have to raise the debt ceiling, that is when it will get interesting, and just see if the republican assholes are willing to crash the economy as the U.S. credit rating is downgraded if they don't raise the debt ceiling

Senators are elected state wide, no gerrymandered districts. If Republican Senators approve the bill will Trump veto it? If he does he can't even lie then about who is responsible for the shutdown.

I'm pretty sure Pelosi has Trump by the balls.

The GOP/Trump party is run by Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, and Fox News. Ryan could have brought this bill up for a vote but instead he ran to the White House to get his new orders.

The GOP knows Trump is in the midst of a temper tantrum that's about to collapse the economy. I figure we can put together a coalition of 20 Republican senators from Classes 3 (up for election in 2022) and 1 (up for election in 2024), plus 55 slightly realistic Republican House members, that can help us pass basic funding bills without Trump's help. And that's where we are right now: our government is in "caretaker" mode attempting to protect the American people from our demented president.
