EAST MOLINE, Illinois -- Police say weather played a part in the death of a FedEx worker, whose body was found outside at an East Moline delivery hub.
The worker, 69-year-old William L. Murphy from Moline, was found dead at FedEx Freight on Thursday, January 31, according to Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustafson. FedEx Freight is located off Morton Drive near the Quad City Downs.
Captain Darren Gault from the East Moline Police Department said another FedEx employee found the worker's body between two semi tractors. The discovery was reported around 9:30 a.m.
The East Moline Police Department removed his body from the scene Thursday morning. Gustafson said authorities weren't sure how long the body had been there before it was found.

(2,284 posts)heavy work that FedEx requires of most workers is too difficult for older workers.

(10,895 posts)The article says nothing about his job. For all we know, he could have been management or a clerical worker.

Use to run, but I'm always fearful of Miniscus problems.. My wife had two operations..Definitely from running on pavement.. Lucky that I didn't experience the same thing..Got off running about 4 years ago.

(32,673 posts)I'm good if I don't run too fast or too far. I keep it at 3 miles. Built my own 10th mile track behind the house. Nice soft sandy dirt.

(3,085 posts)Temps that cold will kill anybody not dressed for them. Old or young, healthy or unhealthy. I was out and about at the time and the cold literally took my breath away. I took one glove off to open my car door and within seconds my hand became painfully cold. Weather this insanely cold is not to be trifled with.

(9 posts)Fed Ex does not offer pension benefits like it's largest competitor UPS does. They also tend to limit work hours and only pay straight time. No overtime. As such many employees really can't retire at a reasonable age unlike UPS employees many of which retire in their 50's and early 60's with 25 and out and 30 and out, at any age, union negotiated pensions.

(8,572 posts)And has a pension plan, ansd a 401K. The money is not as good as UPS but not many places pay as well as UPS anyway. UPS pays really well.
If you work for Ground you're a contractor or work for a contractor, and you're not an employee of Fed Ex. The other Fed Ex companies are Fed Ex owned and operated.
